How To Visually Spot and Detect Spyware, Malware, Virus, and Trojan Scams

You have to be real careful these days on the internet, for scammers trying to bilk you out of your hard earned penny.

I've been well woven into the depths of the internet, and all of it's seedy corners, for over 15 years now and have never fallen for a single scam. That's not bragging, there's just a few basic tricks to being able to (generally) spot someone trying to scam you.

This is a repost of the tips, in reply to a previous thread, which can be found here.

"You've Been HACKED!"

Just a friendly reminder; for the love of all things holy, don't fall for this ish if it lands in your inbox ... Plain Face

This ransomware just landed in mine (actually via the contact form here, which is just another laughable red flag; if they had all of this info they'd use a more direct line to me). It seems so blantantly obvious on so many levels that it's fake that's it's astonishing to think anyone would fall for it, but those gullible ones do apparently exist, hopefully our dear readers aren't among them. Wink

What is: http://www.msftconnecttest.com/redirect ? [SOLVED]

http://www.msftconnecttest.com/redirect

I use a Web Browser Chooser app that allows me to choose which web browser from a list of installed browsersthat will popup whenever a URL is loaded outside of a browser. It shows the URL in the title bar thatit will go to once the browser choise is selected from the list. Sometimes when Windows starts, it'll automatically popup with "http://www.msftconnecttest.com/redirect" in the titlebar.

  • Does anyone know what this is?
  • What's launching it?

Sometimes I get this random page loading whenever I log on to Windows, seemingly after I lose internet connection. This page will load up all by itself:

I've done MalwareMalwarebytes Anti-virus / Anti-malware scans with Adaware and Malwarebytes. and they say I'm clean. Am I infected??
