OK I finally took the time to figure out how to disable touchpad mouse so it doesn't take two hours to make a post !
I wanted to share this with everyone !!!
Touchpads can get very annoying at times, especially when you are writing a long mail or a piece for your blog. Most of the laptops around have a special button to turn the touchpad on\off, like my old Toshiba had a Fn+F9 button to get rid of it. In Sony Vaio there is no such special button to take care of the same (and I wonder why?) So, how do I get to disable the touchpad when I don't need it?
Here's the key:
Go to C:\Program Files\Sony\Setting Utility Series
Run VCCPointingDevice.exe
Untick the "Enable" checkbox and voila!
This would disable the touchpad. You could create a shortcut to the file above for quick, easy access!
To enable the touchpad you need to run the same executable and tick the "Enable" checkbox. You need to have an external mouse to move around, and if you are a GNU-Linux freak, I guess you can make you way around without the mouse.
Moderator note: There's also another method shown in the comments below.
Loved the solution. Worked for me !!
Thank you
Aw man, too bad this is only for Sony Vaio. I hate it when the mouse cuts in the middle of my text. Or mysteriously highlights and erases everything.
Most laptops you can turn it off. You just have to go to your control panel and find the option. What brand do you have and maybe someone can chime in that has the same.
well if you need help disabling a different mouse let me know I will look it up and let ya know !
On HP's you hit the button above the touch pad and it disables it (re tap it to enable it). I love my HP lappy
yeah thats awesome dont ya wish all laptops were so easy?
Need more help to re- enable my touchpad. Someone DISabled it, and I forgot how they did it. Yes, I like it dis-abled, but I'm afraid if I ever drop my wireless mouse or forget to bring it, I can't use the laptop at all! My kid says I can make the touchpad settings very extreme so that they are not very sensitive and it would take a lot to make that stupid cursor jump all over when I'm typing - which is the reason I wanted the touchpad disabled in the first place.
Here's my problem: Your advice is missing a step or something for my laptop. I have a new Sony Vaio E Series with Windows 7. My problem is that you say to go to C:\Program Files\Sony\Setting Utility Series
But I only have a choice of C:\Program Files\Sony and then the following choices
Hey Glynis!
