This Acer Aspire One laptop has win Xp home edition with sp3service pack installed ! 1gb ram. This is a brand new laptop from Target. I can't get it to connect to wifi !
When I do get it to connect it says connected but when I open Firefox or IE it doesn't connect to internet !
I think its just the wifi settings but cant figure this out !
i'm getting this message after messing with settings :
Im at a coffee shop It wont connect to any wifi it been a week now trying to get it to connect my other laptop connects fine! Is there a way to save wireless setting to usb port or something to swith to it?
Ahhh ok, so then you don't have access to the router admin. Try this: Click the Start button, then Run, and type in "CMD" and click OK.
In the command window type "ipconfig /release" and then "ipconfig /renew" That flushes your IP address and gets a new one. If you're still having problems you can aslo try ipconfig /flushdns Reboot the computer after doing that and see if you can connect. No quotes around any of those commands when ya type them by the way.
I figured it out !!!
http://gd.panam.acer.com/home/
downloaded Driver for wireless modem and uninstalled it from Xp device driver
and ran setup and restarted it then it connected right away so basically it had the wrong driver from the factory !
How did you go to That website to download the startup file and everything? I can't get to the internet at all on the aspire one.

If you have access to any other computer with internet access you can grab it that way, and then transfer it over to the Acer. Library? Friends? Work computer?
i tried the atheros 8.0.0.225 WiLan driver and it worked...FINALLLLLLLYYY!!!!!!!
Thnk u so much for the link.
it says. "no operation can be performed on Local Area Connection while it has its media disconnected" does that mean i have to hook bakk up the ethernet cord??
ok, so i plugged the ethernet in. n it released the IP. BUT wen i command renew it says "an error occured while renewing interface Local Area Connection: unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out"
Hi Pinkii, welcome to GD
Give this a shot and see if it solves your issue:
This "unlocks" your NIC and after rebooting, an new IP address should have been assigned. If not, try the release/renew method mentioned in previous posts again.

Sounds like a router issue. You may need to go into the router admin and manually assign the IP to each computer on your network, or at least manually assign different IP's to the laptop and whichever other one is using the same IP.
