Nothing is worse then trying to access the internet while at work or school only to find that its a blocked site. You can't get on your myspace, facebook, twitter or youtube? So how do you access the web? Well one way (the easiest way) would be to access the web via a proxy site. Using a proxy will also let you surf the web anonymously with out showing your computers IP (your computers address). There are many different proxys on the web. Some proxys hide more then others. You can google and find a ton of them.
One of the better proxys we have found that hides your information is hidemyass.com its also very easy to use and there is nothing to download. You simply go to HideMyAss.com (type it in your address bar)
is there any way for a website to block proxies?
now, i'm reversing the question, how do you get around that? {to be able to visit the site, but still anonymously}
Oh yeah most sites have a black list of proxes they block. The only way around that is to find a new proxy. If you google you can find alot but its finding one that is not on the lists that can be hard. Now there is the TOR that you can use too. I haven't used TOR in some time and I dont even have it on my new PC (no reason to) but it works nicely.
I've tried a bunch of proxies--will try TOR! hope it works with the site, i will update in a bit. thanks SM!
Sorry -- i have not updated more quickly because i'm having so much fun with TOR!! thanks SM! totally works!
Once again, i get into so much mischief when i'm bored *hahaha* love it.
Yeah TOR is harder to block because its constantly changing (the IP's). I'm glad your enjoying it
Hi SM, I happened upon your site and have found it very helpful. Thanks.
I found some information about TOR that I didn't know if you were aware of (http://www.omninerd.com/articles/What_Traffic_is_on_a_TOR_Relay). I have no computer/programming or language skills but I found this information to be really eye opening. I honestly have no right to download TOR anyway as I haven't a clue about "nodes", "relays" and such. I'm just a Mom trying to protect me and the kid.
Thanks again
You should join our site (its free) - there are alot of us mom's here (I have 3 teen boys). That is how I got into computers, I was trying to stay ahead of my kids and protect them at the same time.
I've played with TOR some in the past but I have since switched over computers and I no longer use it. I really only used it out of curiosity but it is pretty cool. The only downside is you have to download TOR and well if your trying to do it at school or work then chances are you will get busted on that one.
Your geekdrop site looks interesting. I will keep reading. I like what i see on the site so far. Keep up the good work on your website.
Hi, OK, I joined...thanks for the invite and thanks for responding:)
I don't know if I should find another thread here that better defines what I'm trying to do, so bare with me. I'm trying to find information on how to set and use a "multiproxy". I downloaded Multiproxy from Firefox but that's it. I'm at a lose as to how to actually use the fool thing. Their website is way above my head in that they don't explain in detail (like I need a MultiProxy for Dummies) how and what kind of data should be entered in the fields under "Manage Proxy". When I do a search on the web for info on how to enter the right information I can't find anything that I can understand.
Can you point me in the right direction, please...
Thanks a bazillion
Somewhere between fantasy and reality...
Wow, that's so cool. Where was this proxy when I was in school? Great thread, SM!
