Someone please tell me if I'm going crazy here.......... I'm pretty sure the latest Windows Update removed ALL of my junction links but not 100% positive !!! Has this happened to anyone else? I'm using Windows 10. The last Windows Update seems to have been some kind of full upgrade instead of just the usual patches, because just like when you do a upgrade it left behind the "Windows.old" folder with the previous version of Windows in it. I think I the process of "upgrading" itself it also took it upon itself to remove all of my previous junctions ! errrrrgh!!!!!
What's a junction link? That sounds interesting my C drive is filling up and I'd like to maybe try that?

It's a bit of an advanced thing; if you're not careful you can potentially really screw your system up, but if you know what you're doing it's pretty simple.
Basically you're creating a shortcut to a folder somewhere else on your computer, then telling windows that the folder is over there instead of where it originally was. But, as far as windows "can tell", the folder is still in the original place.
i.e. you have C:\SomeFolder, you move that entire folder over to your D: drive to something like D:\SomeFolder, then create a junction pointing to it. when you do that, it'll create an empty C:\SomeFolder that just links over to the one you moved to D:, and windows will behave exactly as if all of it's contents are still at C:\SomeFolder.
Great for freeing up gigabytes of space in some Windows system folders. Maybe I'll write up a tute some day on it.
I confirm that you (thread-starter) are not alone.
Guess my WIndows update came late, but I noticed just yesterday that all my junction points had vanished.

Sure did. I have an SSD drive for my C: drive and I free up a ton of space by moving some huge system folders over to a 4TB drive, and make some junctions to them. Sure enough, after the last Windows Update I was getting some errors on things that used to work. After some gumshoeing I realized that it was thanks to good ol' Microsoft hosing all of my junctions.
I ended up having to manually go through and re-make them all.
