Does anyone out there have any good xp with IIS 7.5 and setting up multi user FTP sites?
I got it working a while back with server 2008 and just upgraded to 2008 R2 and having issues getting it working again. I can get one main account working but can't get a secondary limited account working. These are Active Directory accounts. Main account connects but can't get the other to. Seems to me like permissions and all are in place ok. I've gone as far as putting the secondary account in every same group my main account is in, and giving it the same exact file permissions but still get an error when connecting. Something about not being able access the home directory. Seems way harder then it should be!
Yup. Either I'm not setting up the home dir correctly in AD or I just don't understand how that works. Also I can't seem to understand how to sperate that per user account. I've also tried to setup a virtual dir and point it to where I want the user to go but can't seem to get that to work. There are options that seem like they would work but there a pita to get working right. I don't know if it's a security thing or what.
What's maddening is it seems really sparatic. Not long after I got home tonight I thought I had it. Somehow (not really sure what I changed) but all of a sudden it was doing what I wanted it to. I though I got it. Then I added another account and now my other secondary account isn't working again. Extreamly frustrating to say the least.

I got it working! Seems the issue I was having with using the virtual directories was this. In order to use vd's you need to create either a LocalUser folder or a folder with the same name as your domain if it is a domain user account. Well I didn't know about the last part until I read a little closer. I was trying to setup vd's on a local lvl but my accounts were domain accounts. Soon as I created a folder with the same name as my domain I can now setup any account with a virtual ftp directory. So simple but was very frustrating. Anyway I'm glad that's done so Now I can move on. It was bugging me for the last 3 days. heheheh.

Congrats, were you fighting with IIS FTP just for the learning experience, instead of using something more intuitive like ServU-FTP, or is it a work-related thing? (or both?)

The less 3rd party stuff I have to use the better I figure. I'm running server software for a reason. But I also wanted to figure it out. Now that I have it's pretty sweet I must say. It's built in so may as well use it you know. I suppose I don't have to have that setup as a role and go with something like filezilla server or some thing but ehh. I like doing it the hard way. This isn't a work thing really although it could relate to work and now I know how to do it. Although I havn't played with the other ways to go about it. This is my personal server at my house.

Yup! I tend to be the same way. The IIS one is still pretty nice too, and all controllable from one control panel with the rest of IIS.
