Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

5 replies [Last post]

A huge passion of mine is Astronomy. I have just recently re-visited this interest of mine thanks to a summer camp I chaperoned for my kids. I had almost forgotten how much I loved the stories of star clusters and the sheer awesomeness of whats above us. I am beginning to look into some gadgets to help my kids understand what an amazement the stars and planets are. Anyone have any suggestions on what to get? How to begin? Without breaking the bank.. be kind with the price tag though, I'm a mom on a budget.

* be sure to include any upcoming "observable" moments for us to look forward to and discuss*

First-Ever Asteroid Tracked From Space to Earth

For the first time, scientists were able to track an asteroid from space to the ground and recover pieces of it. The bits are unlike anything ever found on Earth.

Re: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
Here you can find this year's upcoming astronomical events. I couldn't find much unless you're going to be Asheville, North Carolina from April 3 and 4th to star-gaze. Yeah, maybe not so good for the pockets...sorry Green. You can make it an educational group outing and go to your local library or Barnes and Noble (sometimes they're one in the same, people go in there and just read anyway) and check out this list. There's a pretty good mix for all ages there. Plus some of those books, I find pretty cool myself.
To rise again from the ashes.....what an understatement.
Re: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star 3/27-4/3

3/27-4/3 The Coma Berenices star cluster can be seen and found by the naked eye only this time of year (spring- and only for 1 week)
The story of the Coma Berenices Star Cluster
Egyptian legend has it that Berenices, queen of Egypt, pledged her golden locks if her husband returned from battle well and alive. He returned safely and so the gods placed her golden locks of hair in the sky during a the Spring Moon.
.
Help in locating this golden cluster? (best on a night of low moonlight)
First locate The Big Dipper. The Coma B. will be found by following a line down from the two stars in the cup of The Big dipper. The stars in the handle trace down to Arcturus (the 3rd brightest star in the night sky) and Coma B. is found between Arcturus and the Big Dipper
(Best to view on a night of low moonlight)
Happy star gazing Smile
