"Daylight saving time was first used during World War I, as part of an effort in the United States and other warring countries to conserve fuel. In theory, using daylight more efficiently saves fuel and energy because it reduces the nation's need for artificial light."
This fact has long been disputed by politicians and energy experts. Many believe that the extra artificial light needed in dark Daylight Savings mornings cancels out the benefit of brighter evenings. However, a 2008 Department of Energy report to Congress found that Daylight Savings Time does indeed save energy, though not as much as we'd hoped. According to the report, the total energy savings throughout the period of Daylight Saving Time add up to 17 Trillion Btu of primary energy consumption, which is only .02 percent of the country's total use in 2007.
i love the extra daylight in the evenings to take my beach walks but i definately didnt like waking up later.

I loved the darkness at 5... I hate there being light until 10 and night, and then it coming back at 5:30. =(
I do know what you mean. It is tough to get the kids asleep in Green's house for a few weeks on school nights after the time change. I try to cover their windows starting at @ dinnertime with a thick blanket so they dont see (after bathtime) that its barely dark at 8 ish. It sometimes works.

It sometimes works.
I'd love to know those exact statistics.... Sometimes = 3%? :rollinglaugh:
it's just always a bit of a downer to be inside the office all day while the sun is shining and then, around 4:30-5pm, right around heading home time, it being dark already.
Husband was supposed to change the clock in the bedroom. I woke him up at 10:00 to get ready for church. He siad "oh I haven't changed the time on the clock yet. Church starts in 1/2 an hour!" Why didn't he change the time? Because he figured he would remember to get up anyway. Still getting used to living with a man. Now I know in Fall to change the time on the clock myself.
