So I can't wait for the release date of Windows 7. I've already pre-order a copy of it and now its just a waiting game. I did find out some of the new features that will be on Windows 7
that just made me excited. So here are some of the features:
Windows 7 lets you Shake it up
OK I'm the first to admit I'm a tab whore. I always have a ton of tabs open, it drives some crazy but I have a hefty computer so it doesn't slow me down. Well there are times when I'm doing office work and I may have 5 or 6 Word files open, a Few excel files and yeah some Notepads. Well I don't want to right click them and do the close group. With Windows 7 you can open one up then grab the top of it and shake it up. When you shake it the rest kinda just go away (close) how cool is that? Its like shaking a dust pan in the trash - you get rid of what you don't want
Become a hovering geek
Well like I stated above I always have tabs open. Ok so now when your tool bar is loaded instead of having to full open the tab open you can hover over it to get a preview of it - what a time saver
Windows 7 is snappy
OK you want to resize your screen - easy. Simply click on the screen and drag it to the right or left to resize it to half screen, drag it up top and snap it back to full size. Yep it takes multi tasking to a whole new level.
Windows XP
So you have a old tried and true program that only works in Windows XP? No problem you can download from Microsoft Windows XP Mode and it will let you emulate Windows XP but on Windows 7. Did I mention this download is FREE
Smile for the Mouse
OK so say you are having a issue with your computer and you want to ask your friends on geekdrop how do you fix it. Its hard to explain so you need screen shots. Well with Windows 7 there is a "record" button that once you are recording it will take a screen shot with every click of the mouse. Now you have all the pictures with no hassle to explain your issue or to email to a friend.
I can't read that what does it say?
OK I totally love this feature. See my dad is visually impaired so reading what it says on the PC can be hard. Its a pain to keep enlarging the screen only to end up with a scrolling bar, it just makes it hard. Well with Windows 7 they have a new magnifying box. Hover over and you can magnify a area up within a box - no more taking up a Full Screen.
I'm touching you
Well if your one of the lucky ones with touch screen you know now there there are only some features that are really touchable. With Windows 7 the world of touch screen is so much more - so go ahead touch some more
For the Love of ISO
In the past when you wanted to burn a ISO file to a DVD you would need to download a special third party program which may or may not work. Well now with Windows 7 all you need to do is double click on the ISO and burn the disk.
Oh I know I'm totally excited about it. I ordered a copy for my home computer but I just upgraded my laptop and my work computer and both of those came with a free upgrade when it is available. I can't wait
I'm running 7 RC1 on a second partition. it's way better than Vista. Still not as nice as Mint but a definite step forward. I am considering ordering a disc and installing it over my current RC partition. Not sure if I'll take the plunge or not. I'll only use it to edit a video and maybe my iPhone.
Yeah I'm considering dual booting my kids with it. Right now they have XP professional. I would upgrade them but that would re-installing a zillion games Their hard drives are already partioned so it wouldn't be a biggie but it would give them more options. I guess I'll wait till I update and let them surf on mom's pc to see if they are intrested in it.
Oh, I forgot to mention I have played with the Virtual XP. It's pretty nice. It can go full screen and it's fairly convincing. You might actually think you are using XP. My resolution for icons is lacking but otherwise it works well. Most of the programs I've tried in 7 work just fine despite being released years before Windows 7. It seems to me that if it works in Vista it works in 7 but that's a very small cross section of software.
yeah they guarantee that anything that works in Vista will work in Windows 7. I want to say that I heard also that if you have windows XP PROFESIONAL that its compatable but dont quote me on that one. Maybe it was that they will offer support - I dunno I'll have to google that one more.
In that Virtual XP, do you still have to install the full XP OS in the virtual machine to use it? Or does it just kinda run XP "out of the box"?
I've been using Virtual machines for years now. First I started with Virtual PC, but it got eclipsed by VMWare, which I've been using for a long time now, and loooove it. Just wondering if Microsoft changed anything.
I'm thinking its out of the box but I could be wrong however that was the impression I got from the site Windows XP Mode I guess we'll see when the time comes (when Win 7 comes in).
Yea, not sure how it's done yet, but something is different than the usual virtual machines. Interesting to see that you can only run it with certain newer processors/bios's that support virtulization.
My puter is pretty new and powerful, but apparently according to this utility, it won't support "XP Mode."
The theme looks pretty cool...I would love to hv that too..
