Parents of a 15 yr old girl in England are blaming Facebook for their daughter's suicide after abusive bullying messages were left on her wall.

Holly Grogan jumped 30 feet to her death from a bridge last week and was hit by traffic after abusive messages were relentlessly posted onto her Facebook page, according to Times Online.

Here's what I don't really understand, I thought you had to be friends with someone in order to post or even see on their wall. Is it really fair to blame this on Facebook? I mean I understand the peer pressure and the need to fit in at that age is very important, but I would imagine that this girl had more issues than just the messages on Facebook to drive her to do something as tragic as this. And if somehow people were leaving abusive messages, how come she didn't just cancel the account and open up a new one I don''t Know

What do you think?

Re: Parents Blame Facebook for Teen's Suicide

What a sad story and I hate to read about any child that is so depressed that they don't feel like they have any way out but to end their life. I'm going to guess that because of her age she didn't realize that she could simply do some setting changes and ended the abuse that she was dealing with, atleast the cyber part. Bulling be it cyber or in real life can be so devastating to kids (and adults). My heart goes out to the family. I couldn't imagine what they are going though (as a mom of a 15 yr old myself). Do I feel that facebook has any blame in it - no. Facebook gives you many options much more then myspace) to stay private or to secure your profile or parts of it. They also have a abuse button that if you are being harassed that you can contact them. What I would like to see it the authority's go after those who feel it is ok to cyber bully to not only teach them a lesson but other kids that its not only not right but not legal.
