Well if your a Palm Pre owner they you know the on again off again battle with Apple. Apple is not only not happy about Palm Pre being about to sync that thy are constantly updating their itunes to boot them off. So once again the war is on but this time its gone much deeper.
See Palm being oh so annoyed had argued their case to USB Implementers Forum. I think Palm was in for a surprise when not only did they not really agree with Palm but they may be in violation of the USB-IF Membership Agreement.
I attach for your information the USB-IF’s adopted and published policy regarding Vendor Identification Numbers (VIDs). Under the Policy, Palm may only use the single Vendor ID issued to Palm for Palm’s usage. Usage of any other company’s Vendor ID is specifically precluded. Palm’s expressed intent to use Apple’s VID appears to violate the attached policy.
Please clarify Palm’s intent and respond to this potential violation within seven days.
Well Palm’s WebOS 1.2.1 update not only fixes the syncing issue it now also allows you to be able to sync photos. So once again the battle has begun.

So what do you think - should Palm be able to sync with iTunes? If your a iTunes user does this annoy you because you have to do constant updates partially due to them?
Plus it's just dumb for Apple to say "If we can't have all of your business we don't want any of it." Genius.
I think that is the way Apple has always been with is why I probably have a distaste for them. I think if they allowed other media in like you said they would grow. Apple is in their own little world with them wanting you to buy their products and only their products and charging alot for them. I can also tell you that I have had my sons ipod loose music after he syncs in it like if its not "protected" music its just vanished - drove me nuts.

I think it's a pretty bold move on Palm's part. Knowing that they are in violation of their agreement regarding the use of someone else's USB info. Seems like a great way to get in trouble.
That being said I think they are purposefully creating this fight to force Apple to allow non-Apple devices to sync with iTunes. I agree with this plan. Your average person wouldn't know how to free their DRM crippled purchases from iTunes. If they can't sync their new device in iTunes they just effectively lost all of their purchased music. All because they switched brands of device. The music you buy should be yours. Taking your music with you is not hard but again we're talking average users here. Besides, no user should have to work the system, install third party plugins or anything. Just use it. It doesn't matter if that means allowing other devices to sync or allowing purchased music to be imported into another media management program.
