I'm not sure if I totally understand the idea here... To me, it sounds like on-demand computer games. They claim, however,
"OnLive is the most powerful game system in the world," said company founder Steve Perlman
"No high-end hardware, no upgrades, no endless downloads, no discs, no recalls, no obsolescence. With OnLive, your video game experience is always state-of-the-art," he declared.
"The real question is what would happen if this actually works as promised? Is it the end of Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo as console manufacturers?" he asked.
From that standpoint Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities told USA Today "OnLive shows the potential for a gaming world without consoles" if the pricing is right.
Basically, they have it set up like this:
Mr Perlman said that the company has developed a data compression technology that allows games to be powered on remote servers rather than on game consoles.
Users download games instantly through the OnLive MicroConsole or straight onto a PC or Mac. The MicroConsole also connects to any TV. All that is required is a high speed connection.
Gamers will be able to select from an on-demand catalogue of video titles stored on these data servers. The Palo Alto based company promises that the service will provide instant access to the most advanced games in the world, solo and multiplayer.
To date nine publishers have signed up including familiar names like Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, THQ and Atari Interactive.

So, does this sound like something you or your kids would use? To me, I see this as no different then buying a CD at Walmart and playing the game on your computer. And the idea that it will bring down the big three??? No way in hell.
Rueters just did a story on this:
A console slightly larger than an iPhone connects TVs and broadband connections to the OnLive service, and is operated via a wireless controller. OnLive delivers games run on servers in the "cloud," rather than locally on a PC or a console.
He said OnLive allows complex and graphically rich games to play with outstanding performance on even low-end PCs or Macs.
Who knows, this could be the best thing since sliced bread. But, right now, I just see no selling point for me. I love my Wii. I don't need this. I still don't see this becoming a big thing at all. Though, everyone shot down Nintendo, saying that no one would waste their time with useless games at home.... *shrug* I might end up eating my hat. I still say nothing will bring down the big three

Yeah I don't see it as bringing down the big three. First to play some of those games (the good ones) you would require a updated system with a higher end gaming video card - not everyone has that. If you do the MicorConsole that still means you need to run out and purchase a system. How does this really differ if say someone goes out and buts a WOW (World of Warcraft) game and plays other online. I'm sure this will not come free. I just don't see it happening right now - now watch me be wrong.
