Well lets face it insurance companies are always looking for reasons to cut folks. Its getting to the point that unless your healthy they don't want you. OK I admit I can understand some, I mean the insurance is a business. However when is it going to far? Recently a couple were told that their 4 month old baby would not be covered because of "obesity". This is a baby that ranks in the 99% (not only for weight but height) so the insurance company Rocky Mountain Health Plans turned him down.
Baby Alex Lange was being breast feed by his mom. I guess the insurance company didn't take in for account that breast feeding is more healthy. Anyways at 4 months old he weighted in at a hefty 17 pounds and 25" long. At birth he was 8 1/4 lbs. Currently the insurance company has a policy if the babies are over 95% then they can not be insured. The mom was told "Your baby is too fat" by the insurance company. You can read more here: clicky
So do you think they are going overboard? Should insurance companies be able to pick and choose babies?
My kiddo was MORE THAN THAT and wasn't fat!! (When i saw the thread title i was thinking it was like a 50lb 2month old, which even so would have to be a medical problem - something that's not their fault). 8lbs 9oz and was always in the 97-99th percentile for height and weight. I breastfed for about a year. Yes he was a very healthy sized baby (i'm restraining myself from putting up an oh-so-cute swaddled-up picture) and continued to be a 'husky' toddler (not OBESE or FAT by any means though, SM & missb you have seen pics of him, you know) until he was able to run around, then he lost those cute baby rolls, but he's still a very solid boy. i had in-laws tell me not to worry about him being a big boy that he'd thin out (as if i had a problem with it) i was like thaaaaanksss (shut up). IMO having a healthy sized kid will fare better when virus season strikes. and no, that is NOT fat, it's a very healthy size. Oh I agree ALL of my kids were over the 95% for their age and they stayed that way for years. No they were not fat but as tots they were chunky monkeys. Since my kids are older I'll post a pic of my one son. He was about 5-6 months old here. Ok mind you this was taken when the Anne Geddes pic fad was in full bloom:

Now he is chunky there but I can assure you he is skinny skinny now. He is very active and very healthy. Heck this is my veggie kid.
I can not image being dropped from insurance because of this. My oldest was born sick and spent 21 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). He had ecoli bacteria in his blood and he was not expected to live. He was easy over 100k and that was 17 yrs ago. They do need to regulate this - its crazy!
GG your son is the cutest!!! I love his pics and he is just adorable. I think he is fine for his age - and well beyond adorable!!!

that is crazy! what happens if you give birth to a sick baby? i dont think they should be allowed to judge children under a certain age.
