New 2009 Ca law for exempt computer professionals

1 reply [Last post]

Exempt computer professionals are getting a raise here in California. Labor Code 515.5 has been amended to allow payments to exempt computer professionals on a monthly or salary base. Prior to this change computer professionals had to make a minimuim hourly rate set by the DSLR (Division of Labor Statistics & Research) annually. The hourly rate for 2009 has been increased from the previous $36.00 per hour to a new $37.94. The new minimuim monthly salary exemption is $6,587.50 or a new minimuim annual salary exemption of $79,050.00

Exempt Employee:

Refers to an employee who, because of his/her duties, responsibilities and level of salary and is employed in a bona fide executive, administrative or professional capacity, is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Exempt employees are not required to maintain weekly time cards and generally do not receive overtime pay for work performed in excess of the normal workweek.

Re: New 2009 Ca law for exempt computer professionals

wow that is a pretty good jump. I had no idea there was a min. for computer professionals in CA. I've ever heard of that in FL. but with CA as a hot spot for the computer industry (San Jose & Palo Alto) it doesn't surprise me.
