I saw this on the Today show and the robot they had on there made me furious.

So the government is now changing its recommendations after 'doing some research':

preventing & treating breast cancer costs too much
Yeah, this is where we're going, people. There are so many other things that are going on that i don't talk about because of controversial politics, but this is SICK!
  • Most women under 50 should not get Mammograms unless they are high risk (family history etc)
  • Women between 50 and 74 should get one every two years
  • no screening after age 74
  • and Women should not be taught how to do Self-Exams.

The arguments for this make me sick and basically come down to this:

  • mammograms are more harmful than good (scroll down on here and you will see this is an exaggeration..and surprisingly this is a govn't website too)
  • "most tumors in 40 yr olds are slow-growing" and would be caught at their 50 yr old mammogram,
  • if women have an aggressive & rapidly growing breast cancer, their survival rate isn't good anyway,
  • if you're over 74 yrs old, you're going to die soon anyway, so we don't want to pay for your treatment
  • women should not be taught self-exams because it does more harm than good (leads to checking it out, doing a mammogram/ultrasound, maybe doing a biopsy, maybe saving their lives),
  • we need to make our standards like Europe's (HA! that's how they cut their govn't run health care costs--which is what our govn't wants to do.)

Take a hard look.

What do you think?

Believe it or not, I'm putting myself on a leash on this one. I am FUMING. I had Four paragraphs addressing each one of these idiotic arguments.

"The task force advice is based on its conclusion that screening 1,300 women in their 50s to save one life is worth it, but that screening 1,900 women in their 40s to save a life is not, Brawley wrote."

I'll leave it at this:

So basically...the govn't wants to tell you
"ignore that lump you got in your breast--don't touch it to know that it's there, don't check it again in a month to see if it's growning. it's probably nothing. and if it is something, wait til you're 50 to get it checked out -- or until your biennial appt if you're over 50-- if you die because of it before then because it spread through your whole body, then well, we're sorry...but ....you wouldn't have wanted to get a potentially agressive treatment in order to beat it, would you?"

????!!!

Read more here and here or just start looking at the news, it's popping up all over.

Things are about to get heated. American Cancer Society disagrees. Breastcancer.org just put out a statement as well.

Feel free to disagree with me, i won't attack you Laughing people are entitled to their opinions.

What do you think?

Ohhhhh GG you so read my mind. I too saw the Today show part on the new changes and I though you have to be frickin kidding me. What are we going to go with the if I don't see it then it must not be there. I'm sorry I would rather side on the side of caution.

Here is what I also feel. Our government is now talking about national health care (socialized medicine). How much of this new change is based on the change? I know mammograms are not cheap so what lets cut cost by cutting the care that women need???

As I sit here and type this in my purse I have my RX to get a mammogram. No its not my first as I'm 41. Now I'm curious is my insurance going to even cover it? Do I have a family history of breast cancer - NO. However I can tell you I have a scar in my cleavage area about the size of a nickle from cancer. No it was not breast cancer but skin cancer. Skin cancer that did have deep roots and did require some surgery and I'll spare you the details but it went deep and needed some corrective surgery. I had that done when I was 35 and that required my first mammogram but not my last.

Yeah so being that I'm in the age group that is really affected yes I do care and yes I will fight for my right to have a mammogram!
