Well last night was quite interesting, I had to do some running around late at night with one son while the other two were at home. When I left the house I told the other two to unload the dishwasher and reload it with the dishes from dinner. They went to unload it and thought that they didn't look quite clean so they thought they would wash them again. They also thought lets get them ultra clean and add some liquid dish soap (the kind for sinks) to it. Never add liquid dish soap to a dishwasher. when I walked in the door my kitchen had 2 feet of bubbles covering the whole kitchen. Holy crap I freaked. Probably 20 towels later I got it cleaned up but now the issues was my dishwasher was continuing to overflow. The dishwasher was full of bubbles - like this:
That is not my dishwasher but it looked like that inside. I scooped out what I could but it didn't stop. I then made google my friend and searched. It wasn't a easy search which is why I did this thread, to help the next poor soul who does this.
How to stop the dishwasher from overflowing due to all the bubbles from liquid dish soap: You have to empty out all of the dishes so that the dishwasher is empty. Once you do that then add about 4 cups of cooking oil to the bubbles. I used Canola oil but any cooking oil will do. The oil will break up the bubbles and keep it from overflowing. Simply pour in the oil and turn the dishwasher back on. Should it continue to overflow add more oil. For my problem the 4 cups of oil worked perfectly and stopped it.
Remember as a kid watching "The Brady Bunch" (yes I know I'm dating myself here)? Remember when Bobby added to much soap to the washer machine and it overflowed? That is what my kitchen looked like but only 2 feet tall with bubbles and mine was the dishwasher.
