Well I guess Canada is not happy with how facebook security is going and they violate Canadian Privacy Laws. A few of the flaws they found were in the apps and how they have to much access to information and they are not run by facebook but by 3rd parties. The also don't like how that when you deactivate your account on facebook it doesn't mean its gone. facebook hangs on to everything and all the info on closed accounts are still there.
You can read more about it here:
OTTAWA, July 16, 2009 — In order to comply with Canadian privacy law, Facebook must take greater responsibility for the personal information in its care, the Privacy Commissioner of Canada said today in announcing the results of an investigation into the popular social networking site's privacy policies and practices.
"It's clear that privacy issues are top of mind for Facebook, and yet we found serious privacy gaps in the way the site operates,†says Privacy Commissioner Jennifer Stoddart.
Hummm so this may start making it harder to find those facebook exploits now but when there is a will there is a way So do you think this is a good or bad thing? Why?
Actually facebook is based out of California so no there not out of Canada unless they have a Canada office and they might. I'm curious if they do the same for myspace since myspace uses 3rd party apps too. But your right do they have the right to tell a company based out of another country what to do? If they do then how do they stop it in Canada? I guess they could require that all local ISP block it. Yeah bet that could turn ugly. It will be interesting to watch for sure.
Out of my mind
I really don't know anything about this site, but does it mean the site has to change the way it runs things just because 1 country has some problem with it? is facebook based in canada? and if its not is it possible for them to change the way the site works in just 1 country? I guess I just don't see how Canada(or any other 1 placve besides the place its based) would be able to do that
