I've been following this story for some time, and I think it's atrocious that this boy hasn't been returned to his biological father. He was pretty much abducted by his mother in 2004 and taken to her native country, Brazil. I understand that international laws differ from one country to another but I always thought that a biological father that is willing and able to care for his child would take precedence over any step-parent. This father has been given the runaround for a long time, and now here's another hurdle. Hopefully he wins and can take his son home to the U.S. for good.
"A Brazilian supreme court judge on Tuesday suspended a lower court's order that would have given custody of a 9-year-old boy to the U.S. Consulate in Rio de Janeiro, where he was to be reunited with his American father.
David Goldman has been fighting for custody of his son, Sean, since the boy's mother took him to Brazil in 2004.
Doing so, he wrote in his order published on the court's Web site, could subject the boy to psychological harm."

Another example how unjust family law is. How sad for both father and son. If the abductor was a stranger they would have been reunited years ago. But, since it was mom.. thats a whole other story. how sad
The fact that she died should have been grounds to immediately reunite him with his father a long time ago.
Yeah immediate grounds UNLESS you live in Brazil
This is a similar story to one that is happening to an old coworker of mine. His wife and youngest child were hit by a drunk driver and died. Then about a year ago his wife's parents asked if they could have his other children visit over the summer in Sweden. The grandparents refuse to send the children back to the US. They are pretty wealthy and had a Judge give them custody of the children in Sweden. A local temple had raised money to help with the cost of an international lawyer, but about three months ago they said they were going to use that money to pay for some of the temples debts. Such a sad story.

I saw the dad on the Today Show - this is such a sad case. The boy needs to be with his REALY father back in the US.
