Hey James & Smartmom, did either of you ever try that firmware upgrade?

Re: Great DVD player

No offense. At all. But I never saw that I would use it much.

You wouldn't rather your menu's look like this?

philips dvp5990 dvp5992 not hacked firmware menus

Than this?

philips dvp5990 dvp5992 Hacked Firmware Menu

Whole upgrade literally takes about 45 seconds, and you can always go back to the original in 45 seconds if ya don't like it. Wink

Re: Great DVD player

ok ok ok that is prettier. So I didn't get a chance to really read on what I need to do so give me the short end of it. Do I just put the film ware on the flash and as soon as I plug it in it reads it?

Yea, basically you just put it on the USB stick, pop it in, and it'll see it and ask to upgrade, then ya wait about 45 seconds or so, and don't close the tray when it pops open. That's apparently important.

My post #12 on page 2 has the link to the firmware, and also a link on how to do it step by step. But here's the direct link too.

OK James since we have the same model the 45 sec. four us is more like 3-4 min and when your done you have to go to the settings menu, click over to "preferance menu" then do the restore default settings and your good to go Big Grin

It's been a while, I forgot all the details, but I think mine took less time. I think mine's a slightly newer one. 5992 or something like that. Maybe that had something to do with it I don''t Know
