Re: Laptop won't turn on
So here's the latest. Called Dell and they said that they'll fix it for $179. They Fedexed a box for me to send it to them in. They said as long as it's not the screen or the motherboard that that's all it will cost, which I suppose is fair enough to have it back all new again. Here's my question, I have Windows 7 installed on it, it came with Windows XP, do you think they will care about this or will it be an issue ??

Re: Laptop won't turn on

They may verify that it is a legit copy of windows on it. Upgrading your system to a newer OS shouldn't effect it now if they have to do a reset then it would be set back to XP and you would have to upgrade it again. With it just being the power button they shouldn't but just to be safe you should back up your system. If you don't remember the windows7 key then you can do this to find it:
CLICKY

I've shipped laptops in for repairs (granted not Dell but HP and IBM) and only once have I had them restore it back to factory settings.

Re: Laptop won't turn on
Why would they care though if it was a legit copy or not ? They were told that there was lots of data on it and they said that that's not a problem that it would all still be there so they better be telling the truth. If it's the problem that I think it is, I don't see any need for them to restore it to factory settings.

They prob won't look to see if it's legit or not, I doubt they really care all that much about protecting another companies software, but I agree w/SM on making sure to backup everything important just in case. Never know if you're gonna get some confused employee who thought it was ok to wipe it clean during the fix or something.

Re: Laptop won't turn on
So I got the laptop back today from Dell, it's like brand spankin' new Dancing They replaced the LCD Bezel, the LCD Cover and replaced a missing key cover, the total was $172, which I won't complain about, at least it was repairable.
