The latest craze for getting high? i-dosing.
I think the power of suggestion is so strong that if someone thinks he or she will get high from listening to some specific music, the chemicals in the brain that are activated are probably some of the same chemicals that are activated in the pleasure center when someone uses certain drugs. Of course, this is happening on a much diminished level, if that's the theory, at all.
Personally I think it's just a bunch of crap. I don't know if anyone remembers the banana peel trick to get "high", or the aspirin and coca-cola trick, well that's along the same lines. The sad part is, if a kid is looking to escape, there are plenty of the real drugs around that he or she can find
My guess would be it's similar to meditation, and getting your brain to match certain brain frequencies, like the Alpha brian wave frequency. There are tons of mp3's and videos on youtube that claim to help bring you to those frequencies by playing matching audio at the same frequency to help your brain sync up to it. The tone they show in the clip sounds like it's playing at the same frequency over and over, alot like those mp3's and videos I mentioned, although most of those try to make them more subliminal, and hidden in some music. Once you get to that mental state of relaxation I'm betting the power of suggestion (thinking they can get high off it) kicks in, or at the least, they just feel very relaxed, like it actually did something drug-like. Teens can sometimes be big dum-dums ...
Then again, if I had to listen to that sound they showed for too long, I'd probably be cringing and making those faces too ... yuck, it makes listening to Boy Bands sound like paradise.
MissB, ask your boy to try it out and let us know how baked he gets. kthxbye ...

It can't hurt anything if he does, it's basically just meditation, it'd probably actually be good for him. I've been studying up on meditation and trying it lately after hearing Howard Stern and a lot of his guests always talking about it, and how much they love it. Once ya remove the hippie-buddha-sitting-on-top-of-a-mountain-stigma-factor from it, it's really nothing but just a way to clear your mind, focus it, and get deeply relaxed for 20 minutes. I actually love it now too.
Tell him he should set his email signature as "kthxbye"
that is plain scary its amazing what they can come up with these days to get high good luck to all the parents out there
huh? ? time to take away the ipod and earphones? crazy
OK while at Defcon I went to a talk that was all about this and how music can alter you. I totally thought of this thread. Here was the meeting:
Weaponizing Lady GaGa, Psychosonic Attacks
Brad Smith
Until: 18:50
The gentleman who gave it holds medical degrees so he isn't some joe smo with a microphone. I also had to laugh that he showed part of that video above alone with a few more. When he showed them the audience laughed. Basically as far as getting high on music yeah its a NO you can't. He said it was like a placebo you tell enough ppl it will happen and you will get some who thinks it does.
The talk however was very interesting and the one I would say my son enjoyed the most. The broke it down to how you can change the music around to alter how ppl are as far as moods. Don't get me wrong not getting high but more how you can calm ppl down or spur ppl to buy things. It was very interesting oh and Dogg they talked about the brown noise and how it does make some have to go poop (see doggs thread about that here: Does This Sound Make You Need To Press Mud? ). They also talked about how music can be used to torture some and how the military uses it (ours and other countries). Here is a screen shot of the top songs used to torcher, I found the list funny and interesting...
So does anyone go nuts with these songs. I guess if you had to hear them 24/7 for 30 days you would haha.

OK audibly high.....seriously??? Sorry I don't get it. Not to mention what school district allows mp3 players during school? I really don't understand how you can get high off of music. I agree that one kid in the video was strange but hell I think a lot of kids are strange.
