I've started to get the hankering to play with an old first gen iphone. It has 4 gigs of hard drive just going to waste. The screen is nearly unusable. So here we go:
How do I turn my iPhone into a usb Flash Drive?
I want to wipe all of the Apple software off and instead install something like the Portable Apps suite. Then I can use it just like I use my Thumb Drive but with the extra cable.
I've done a little bit of Googling. Whatcha got DoGG? Am I gonna have a project for this weekend or not?
I've used diskaid and another before that let me access it as a drive. The full format with the autorun for portable apps is more to my liking. I'll post if I figure it out as well. Thanks.
I did a pretty good amount of scouring today on it, and from all I've seen it's not "possible" to just do a format as if it were a standard hard drive. However, I'm just not the type to like hearing anything is impossible, . It just makes me want to try harder to prove people wrong. I'd have to figure there's *some* way to do it, with some slick thinking. Only problem is I don't have an iPhone to play with, to try on.
Well if you find a way to do a full reformat let me know !
but untill then you can use it as a Flash Drive two ways
install ifile (if you can see through screen enough to do it)
or
use a iPhone file browser to go to my post about them Clicky
The iPhone explorer one will work best for what you want to do !
( I think with it you can delete any system file in iphone too which in theory you can wipe the whole thing 1 file at a time ! )

I don't have an iPhone, so I've never had any personal experience with it. How does this do ya? AFAIK it won't wipe the whole drive clean, but it may do the trick.
If I dig up a way to do a full format and have a fully empty drive, where you can also use an autorun feature to auto load for example, The Portable Apps tray start menu, I'll post a follow up.
