So from time to time you hear about a cool new iphone app only to find it is now gone - booted by Apple or it was rejected by Apple before it hit the app store. Well never fear there is a site that specializes in rejected apps. At Cydia you can find the unauthorized apps. So what apps are there well you will find GV Mobile App there and guess what its FREE.

Now according to wired "To use Cydia or the apps available through it, customers need to jailbreak their phones — hack them to work around Apple-imposed restrictions — a process that Apple claims is illegal."

So you can read more about it here:

Rejected By Apple, iPhone Developers Go Underground

So I'm curious who has already hacked their iphones with jailbreak and has anyone used the apps from Cydia?

Nope nope nope. Jailbreaking voids your warrenty with Apple, and I'm kind of a fan of getting it fixed or replaced if broken.

oh I totally understand that one. I do think I would jailbreak one (if I had one) after the warranty was up just to do it. I think izzle jailbroke his - I may be wrong. Oh well its nice that the apps are there still if you want them Smile

First, for James Clerk, all you have to do to get Apple to honor your warranty is restore using iTunes. That will wipe all jailbreak info off your iPhone. Good as new. That's why you can't jailbreak when Apple does updates until the new jailbreak has been released. There is one app called Make it Mine and the settings in it will survive a restore so if you did use it just set it to default then restore. I have done this and passed the test at the genius bar.

I have jailbroken a first gen and second gen iPhone. Piece of cake. I wouldn't own an iPhone and not jailbreak it. I can record videos on my 3G iPhone even though Apple would rather I didn't for some reason. I have GV Mobile kept signed in by Backgrounder so I can send text messages for free anywhere I get an AT&T signal. I have Winterboard so I can apply custom themes. I use iPhone browser to access my phone from Windows XP so I can manipulate themes to my liking and copy videos from Cycorder to computer for back up. Jailbreaking is amazing.

Note: Smartmom I think you mean GV Mobile not Google voice. The official Google app hasn't been realeased that I know of. Also GV Mobile requires a Google voice account. Google "Google voice" and request an invitation. Expect an invite in about one week. 24 hours if your email ands in .mil.

Huh.... See, I thought as soon as I jailbroke the thing, that was it and I was doomed for life... I think I'm going to jailbreak tonight in that case. Thanks a million Pizzle!

Actually, I read that it might be better to wait for an update?

But who knows when the next update is coming. If that's the case you will always be waiting for the next update. There will always be an update in the works. So far the jailbreak devs hahave never failed to jailbreak the newest firmware. Who knows what Apple may come up with in the future and you are by no means guarenteed that Apple won't find a way to tell if you've jailbroken but the majority consensus is that it is safe. I've done it multiple times now with no problems and like I said that included a trip to the Genius Bar where they offered to replace my iPhone or sell me a newer model at a discount.
