Yes its all videos, and not just on youtube but other sites like cnn etc. It's my son that uses the iTunes not me, I need to ask him if he can also hear it without the headphones because he always uses those. I'm thinking now it has something maybe to do with the headphones
If you look down in the lower right corner of the screen you should see your speaker icon. If you right click it you should see "Playback devices". Select the playback devices and see wich device listed has a green check mark. If the speakers for the laptop don't then right click on em and tell it to set them as your default device. Take a look at all that and see how that goes.

I'll try that later, thanks EM.
Ok, I did this and the speakers had a green check mark next to them. However, for some reason the volume came back over the weekend, it seems it always happens when my son is on it though, never me. I think he's doing something that he's unaware of and it's messing with the volume.
One thing I forgot to mention. And this has caused me to scratch my head for a while trying to figure out why my sound wasn't working. If something is disabled you may not see it under the list devices view. If you right click in the window you will get a few options to check as in "show disabled devices" and "show disconnected devices". It's possible your speakers got disabled and you may not see them then if it's not set to display disabled devices. Messed up how they have that imho. Glad to hear you got it working.

Is it all videos in youtube? Some times there are problems with certain videos depending on how the person that uploaded them compiled them. I know I have had issues with certain xvid coedecs and youtube. Have you gone into the sounds section in control panel to see if you have simple windows sounds? If Itues works then I'd gather that your sound card is functional. When you listen to itues are you useing headphones or the laptop speakers? I know with vista and 7 you need to go in and set the default device if you have headphones plugged in. Sorry I'm at work and can't really do quick screenshots for you.
