Check this picture out. This was yesterday in NY harbor, you can see the Statue of Liberty on the left. This went through the harbor at 122 miles per hour and caused massive destruction throughout Brooklyn & Queens. This is a first for me, in all my time here I've never heard of a twister in NY. Weird stuff.
Don't think I've ever heard a tornado siren
You'd think it was the end of the world. You hear multiple ones, near and far. They sound kinda like air raid sirens plus out here they've added these relatively new recorded voice ones that sound kind of robotic. And you hear them all at once, overlapping each other.
The problem with them is, it's getting to be like The Boy Who Cried Wolf ... they basically fire them off at the slightest hint of bad weather beyond just some sprinkles, maybe because of these overly-politically correct times and lawsuits, so 99.99% of the time, when they go off, nothing even remotely dangerous comes through. After too many of those you don't take them as much more than a loud annoyance when you wanna just enjoy a good storm. And you never actually take cover anymore because of them.
When I was coming up, you'd only hear them when it really counted, and usually there'd be some damage nearby afterwards. To top it off, they also do test runs of them all, the first Tuesday of every month in the spring, summer and fall at 10am.

Wonder if a direct hit would take out the statue?
Every storm we get here practically, the tornado sirens go off. You get numb to them after awhile.
