Atleast one good thing with the web is that we can better educate ourselves on where the sexual predators are out there to protect not only ourselves but our kids. There are a number of ways you can check up who maybe living in your neighborhood. This one is one of my favorite sites familywatchdog.us
You can enter your address and see who lives or works around you. Also notice up top you can sign up to get FREE alerts when anything changes in your area.
Now when you see a box you can click on it and get more information - these are not ppl awaiting trial but those that have been found GUILTY!
Then you can also see the Registered Offender List for your area
Now here are some other sites and some phone apps that will also give you information to better protect yourself:
Offender Locator (iphone app)
mapsexoffenders.com
you can also google: [your state here] sex offender locator and find them in your state.
Yeah I'm wondering if they charge to get Amber Alerts too - its just poor taste if you ask me. Atleast you can get it for FREE and sign up for updates for your area - lets keep the neighborhoods safe!
There is a free version of the Offender locator. I downloaded it. The paid version is back up though for some reason. It's number 15 in the top paid category as of 8/13/09 8:24 pm EST.
as a parent, i love that this site exists!
~karma: i'm countin on it~
What's even more bizarre is when I search my hood, and see 2-3 people I knew from high school on the list.
What's even weirder ... I actually saw a WOMAN on the list.
Nice that will make some fun talks while at a class reunion - Hey didn't I see you on the net
oh wow, thats just sad .... oh and women are not above that unfortunately, its rare but its out there......
oh and women are not above that unfortunately, its rare but its out there......
Probably rare because most guys WISH it would happen.
Only problem is, the ones that end up doing it (and get busted for it) tend to look like Large Marge:
I thought you were into Large Marge's these days

OK according to Techcrunch the iphone app Offender Locator has been pulled - way to go Apple! You can read about it HERE.
"This app is not legal, at least under CA law. Selling the personal information of people (even ex-criminals) for profit is forbidden.â€
OK I understand that but come on Apple this app could save some child why not offer it FREE vs pulling it??
