Yeah I know poopy story but just be glad your not the teen. 15 yr old teenager Alexa Longueira walking along the streets in New York totally not paying attention because while she was texting falls into a open manhole - yep right into raw sewage.

Yeah as you can image she was shocked. Part of the problem is that the manhole was left uncovered, no safety cones. She was reported as saying it was "really gross... shocking and scary."

Nonetheless, observers are harshly divided over who's to blame here. The DEP is certainly at fault for failing to secure the manhole, but to what extent should the girl be held accountable for failure to be aware of her surroundings? If she'd stepped into traffic and been hit by a car, would her reaction (that is: anger and a potential lawsuit) be any different?

Laughing you know I used to make fun of people all the time for texting and not paying attention before I got a cell, now yesterday I almost smashed face first into one of those old fire-house boxes on the telephone pole because I wasn't looking while texting....I hope I don't ever forget to pay attention when crossing the street Worried

Well just don't tell me you text while driving. I think foamy can tell you that is a bad idea after he was hit last year by a texter who totalled his car and put him in the hospital Sad

I admit I can get bad too with it but not while driving. My kids thought the sewer thing in the story was gross!

I saw this on the news a day or two ago, and she was pretty beat up by the fall- lots of scrapes and bruises. Regardless, I can't help but find the whole thing really funny...

Oh I totally agree I got a laugh out of it too. Yeah I saw all the cuts and stuff (lots on her back) and all I could think is ewwwww raw sewage in them. I hope they put her on some strong antibiotics. Plus what about disease - some of the STD's those have to be in the sewer. I would totally be freaking out. Talk about going home and taking a shower in bleach BLAH.

Ok its kinda funny, I think DEP is at fault here, I mean she wouldn't have fallen down the hole if it had been covered, she may have just been like Glove and walked into something ROFL

If this had been a blind person there would be no issue over who is at fault. I do think that ppl should pay more attention to their surroundings as opposed to their cell phones though.... but in saying that, im someone to talk
