So, if you're young, hip, preppy or you have kids most likely you have been to Abercrombie & Fitch. Most of the stores look the same ... Same overpriced clothes that generally have that used look, loud music and the employees all have that "Look".
"A worker from what they call the "visual team", people who are employed to go round making sure the shop and its staff look up to scratch, came up to me and demanded I take the cardigan off. I told her, yet again, that I had been given special permission to wear it. A few minutes later my manager came over to me and said: "I can't have you on the shop floor as you are breaking the Look Policy. Go to the stockroom immediately and I'll get someone to replace you. I pride myself on being quite a confident girl but I had never experienced prejudice like that before and it made me feel utterly worthless. Afterwards I telephoned the company's head office where a member of staff asked whether I was willing to work in the stockroom until the winter uniform arrived. That was the final straw. I just couldn't go back."
She is now suing Abercrombie and I hope she wins. She should after all, they have already paid out millions because of their poor policies: in 2003 they paid 2.2 million for forcing employees to buy their clothes, in 2004 they paid 40 million dollars after being accused of discriminatory employment practices. Humm, now I know why they charge so much, it's so they can pay off the lawsuits...nice Abercrombie. Yep, I got that warm fuzzy feeling.
You can read the whole story HERE.
I avoid stores like the one mentioned like the plague for exactly that reason.
I hope she wins too. I've always wanted to have a girlfriend with a prosthetic arm. I'd fit it with attachments for whatever purpose ... maybe a paint mixer if I'm painting the garage, a back scratcher, an egg beater, an extension for sawing down those tree limbs way up there that I can't reach, the possibilities are endless. Who needs a girl with a regular ol' boring arm?
yeah regular arms are old hat ain't they
I'm not sure if it's illegal though as long as they arent discriminating based on religion, race or gender. Still I hope she wins
I'm 99% sure it is illegal. There are firm laws in place about discriminating based on disability... I think there will be hell to pay. And I think there should be. She's a beautiful girl.
well a disability could actually hamper you from performing certain jobs where the other reasons cant really. Thats why I think its not as solid as those. I know that this girls disability and this job arent great examples of that but all a lawyer needs is a fingerhold like that to make a case.
Between Chicago & Milwaukee
If I went there nowadays, one of the skinny-a**ed male clerks would probably shout to his buddy at the other end of the store: Hey, Bruce, get on the ladder and see if we got any "old man" pants on the top shelf over there!
