Re: Some Intel price cut news...

WOW yes they did. I've gone back and forth pricing out a i7 950 and they did drop. Newegg has the i7 for $299. plus free shipping CLICKY

Plus if your looking at that then you might want to also check out

Western Digital VelociRaptor WD6000HLHX 600GB 10000 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Normally they are always on back order but they have them in stock right now and on sale for $279.99 plus free S&H

Dang it now I have to rethink this and doing another build (while the prices are low and everything is in stock). Now I have to go price out the MB and DDR3 memory Money Eyes

Re: Some Intel price cut news...

Do me a favor and post back what you find. I've been struggling with deciding betweend just doing a vid card upgrade and maybe a new momitor for xmas or going with a full new build on my PC. Right now my CPU is like a intel duo core 3.16 wich isn't horrible. Running 6 gigs of dd2 with win7. I could update my video card and OC the cpu so I don't bottle neck it to bad, but with the way prices are dropping maybe just getting a new system board, CPU, Video, Memory upgrade would work. Please post up what you come up with if you don't mind.

EM.

I just pasted that in and I'm ordering later tonight but my business is buying it Smile Now I have a 2TB HD also already that I will toss in there. Sad part is this is for my son for his birthday/Christmas (and any other holiday I can toss in there). My oldest is a gamer and his 3 yr old machine is now "old" as far as gaming rigs I need to replace one of my pc's at work so I'll use his old one for that. This was suppose to be a suprise that I was still thinking about BUT I walked away from my pc and he saw the shopping cart up on my monitor (parent FAIL). He is a good kid, senior in HS and makes A's and B's. After this he will be my personal slave (in his words) next pc upgrade is all on him down the road!

Re: Some Intel price cut news...

Wow your a good mom!

I see you spare no expense. I hope I can do that for my kids someday. I'll keep looking because I will be a bit more on the budget plan. I try to keep my builds under 1000 bucks myself. I just really need system board, memory(8gig), processor, video. But not sure if I can afford it even for xmas about now. Worst case I'm doing a new video card and over clocking my cpu!

Smile

Re: Some Intel price cut news...

yeah well I'm using a quad core and 8gb ram so I won't be updating for some time. Isn't there a think about once you become a parent you might as well tattoo sucker on your forehead. The problem with going up to a i7 as you just about have to start new because your current MB won't work with it. I thought I was staying still on the safe side and not really blowing the budget. I could have done worse with extra raptors, dual vid cards and then water cool that sucker. I'm hoping this one lasts longer, but I think I said the same thing with the last one. Mean while I'm so screwed if the other 2 kids figure out what mom spent. Biting Nails

Re: Some Intel price cut news...

Yea I suppose you could of done more like you said with sli cards and water cooling! not hard to do.

For me I try to spend the least amount I can on the motherboard. Not to say I cheap out with a bad board but I don't go full out with all the bells and wistles. & Mainly because my rule of thumb is every 3-4 years I'm rebuilding a new pc anyway. & And like ya said if you want a the new CPU down the raod your going to have no choice but upgrade your processor and everything that plugs into it. But I really am leaning towards just getting a video card upgrade. I'm looking in the $200 range. The GeForce GTX 460's are in that range. Or I like the one you picked out actually. & About the same after rebate. But I'll wait til xmas and see what the deals are. I've read good things about the processor I have and people say they run GeForce GTX 480's fine with there cpu OC'd to 4.18ghz. So I'll squeeze out what I can outta this sucker.

My kids are only 4 and 2 so right now I have a few old hand me downs that I am giving them so they can just do there little videos. But won't be too long I'm fearing before I have to shell out the bux. But they will get my hand me downs and I'll get the new rigs! heheheh. Still your a very nice mom for building your son a sweet box like that! & As long as the grades are up and they stay out of trouble they deserve it.

Re: Some Intel price cut news...

I have three boys (all getting ready to have birthdays) ages 14, 16 and 18 (will be). Really only my 18 yr old is a hard core gamer but yes his grades are up, this is the big 18th birthday sooooooooooo...yeah I'm a sucker. My other two won't be growing out of their computers (which were custom) any time soon and I have updated them last year with better video cards and I'll up their ram with my son's old ram so that will buy me some time. My middle son will be driving this year too so that will be a killer since he is already shopping online for trucks. Crying

The GeForce GTX 460 is a nice card too. Smile
