So today the President gave a speech to the kids in school. Some schools showed it and some did not. I live in a area that they showed it but the county's above me did not. I'm curious to who's children saw it and what did they think of it? Did they find it inspirational or did they not pay attention to it?
Two of my kids heard the speech at school today. I asked them how it was and was told simply that is was boring. I'm thinking they didn't really pay attention since were not huge Obama fans here. My oldest (high school) got up and refused to listen to it and walked out of class. I guess he was not alone as many did this. Needless to say I need to send in a letter tomorrow and he already warned me that he might get a in school suspension or detention for leaving. So do I get mad at son of mine for walking out? Should kids be forced into listening to it?
That is funny that they are censoring it for wording - stupid. I heard the county above me is showing it today after they got to approve it (not sure if they censored it). I had to send in a note with my son saying I was fine with the fact that he didn't watch it. He said there were about a 100 kids that went to the gym who didn't watch it. They used the time like a study hall
I had no problem with my daughter watching the speech. She said she liked it. I wonder if all of the alarmists who said Obama was trying to indoctrinate our children with Communism have apologized to the President and the American people? Yeah, I bet not. The goal is never the truth just to prevent the other side from doing anything. (That goes for all parties).
I will say that as a teenager I wouldn't have watched it given a choice. I would have skipped out knowing what he was going to talk about. If he had some interesting stuff to discuss that would have been cool but I never needed a pep talk. As an adult I would react differently but teenage me wouldn't have cared a bit.
Funny thing about all of this is that in 1991 Big Bush addressed schools and the only complaint was that it cost too much to produce. Why was it such a big deal this time? Oh, cause a Democrat was doing it.
And I though censorship was stupid this is good....
Single & Not Looking
I heard some of it, I thought it was ok, it was motivational, but then again kids probably didn't think it was, he talked about hard work, achievement, and how nothing comes easy etc etc. Most kids don't want to hear that. I think kids need to have respect for the President whether they agree with him or not. I mean I wasn't a huge Bush fan but I would have never thrown a shoe at him I wouldn't get mad at my son if he walked out but I suppose he'd have to suffer the consequences of what the school imposes on such an action like that.
EDIT:
Just when you thought things couldn't get any stupider, schools across the nation decided to censor President Obama's speech urging kids to work hard because "being successful is hard."
