Pirates Online

2 replies [Last post]

Anyone else here play Pirates online? My husband and kids have been playing for over a year now. I enjoy the game its alot of fun and I haven't seen anything that I would be concerned of even for my 6 year old playing unmonitiored. However, I am not too happy with the monthly access cost. I don't know much about gaming but is there usually a monthly subscritpion cost for online games? Pirates online charges on 3 different tier options. Right now I opted for monthly membership which allows for a 2 for 1 account (guest account is included with primamry) my kids use the guest account and the primary account my husband (and sometimes I) use. There is no additional equipment to purchase and the download is free. A free version is available but the ability to save your accomplishments when you are done is not an option. I would like to cut monthly costs right now but dont want to take away from their online fun, if possible. I am looking for something similiar to Pirates online. Kid friendly and interactive with others. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated Smile

Re: Pirates Online--Disney Online Studios

Beware of Disney Online Studios! (They are formerly known as Club Penguin.) Many people have reported credit card billing problems bordering on credit card fraud. They make you jump through hoops to cancel your account. This happened to me. Even after requesting cancellation in writing, they continued to bill my credit card. I will not ever do business with them again. Watch your credit card statements!

Re: Pirates Online

I'm a long time online game player.  MMORPG's mostly (Massively Multiplayer, Online, Role Play Games). I've played a bunch  of them and all of them for the most part have a monthly fee.  There are a few exceptions im sure but it really depends on the quality of the game.  Any good online game that is mainly an online roleplaying type game wich has a persistant world will charge monthly. Basically they say this is because of the cost of constant patches and new content that is always comeing out.  They are alway's working on the game and changeing the world.  There are a few games and one comes to mind that have moved tot he Free to play model.  The one that comes to mind is the Lord of The Rings Online. I guess it's free to play now.   Although I guess they get there money in the fact that there is an online store so you do have to pay for certain items and access to certian things. I've never played the game so I don't know all the facts on it.   Here is a link to the article if you care to read it.  http://www.lotro.com/news/709-announcing-the-lord-of-the-rings-onlines-move-to-free-to-play-

There are other shooter type games where you play online basically running around in a war zone type setting.  You don't have a persistant character though.  The game dose save all your stats and they can be quite fun but there a different type of game.  they are free to play.  However most you do have to purchase the actual game.

I currently play wow (World of Warcraft) and have for about 6 years now. I took a couple breaks to try other online games but eventually found my way back to wow. I'm waiting for the new starwars mmo called SWTOR (Star Wars The Old Republic). I"m hoping that game is good. It's due out this spring/summer. But that game will have the same monthly fee type thing that the pirates game has now. These games however I don't know how good for younger kids they are.  Wow is probably fine as long as you have your chat filters on.  That game has so many people playing you run into idiots a lot. I have a 5 year old and still won't let him play any video games online yet.  He has some kids games for the Wii and XBOXXBOX and once in a while will let the kids play them. I'm just leary of them getting addicted to young to that kind of thing.  Easy to do. I've been a long time player of online games but I don't play that often. I really try not to be one of the people that are online constantly and do nothing else.  That unfortunately comes with those kind of games if your not careful.

I believe in making the world safe for our children, but not our children's children, Because I don't think children should be having sex.
