On sale Oct 22 (only at Best BuyBest Buy), which is also Win7's release date Thinking coincidence? i think not! Wink

Nokia and AT&T unveiled the Booklet 3G --a Win7 laptop--for the price of $299 Surprise BUT ONLY WITH a 2-yr service contract-- you must also pay $60/ month to AT&T for a data plan. So for 2 years you pay $1739 for the super-portable laptop that can work & do wireless "anywhere" (5GB monthly data cap). They say that there may be other pricing plans offered in the future. Otherwise you can get it for $599 without the service contract (also only at Best BuyBest Buy).

Here are some of the specs:
  • 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z530 processor,
  • 1GB of RAM,
  • 120GB hard drive,
  • 10.1 inch, 1280 x 720 pixel display,
  • HDMI output,
  • 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Blueooth 2.1,
  • GPS(no turn-by-turn directions though),
  • 3G modem.
  • 12 hour battery
  • weighs 2.76 lbs
If i were a little bit richer (or, more appropriately, a little less poor Laughing) I would want to buy this laptop even with the service contract because wireless internet that only works at my place (Charter) costs about $60-65/month and would only work at my home. If i got this, i would assume it would work anywhere: including starbucks (which normally you'd have to pay for their wi-fi), panera, the library, a friend's house, my car--in Park of course, the middle of a grassy field.... Wink
Once i took that into account, it seemed like a good deal to me. But i still can't afford it Tongue Hey my cell phone bill is enough of a frivolity for me right now at about $20/month--and i can use it for most of the basic internet browsing i do too.
If i had a different type of job that i really needed this on-the-move laptop with lots of media capabilities for, i'd get it.

How about you--does it appeal to you at all?

But then again, according to recent news, AT&T's network is less than desirable (apparently can't even handle the iPhone) so perhaps this is not such a good deal. Thinking

I wouldnt be really interested, $60 a month for a data plan i think is outrageous and I'm not a fan of AT&T. I would however like to know how you only pay $20 a month for cell phone service WITH internet browsing, thats a STEAL! Surprise

yeah--my phone is a good deal--it's bc we have a group rate (because we all have it at work). and i only use the internet for checking my email or logging into facebook a few times, i think i was actually just able to switch plans now (*runs and hides*) it's $9.99/month with 25 MB/month for internet usage (i probably only use at max. 15mb/month)...
but keep in mind that as a trade-off my phone is very very old-school and verizon's coverage is....less than desirable.
which most of the time, i can live with

With only 1GB of ram and having to pay $60. a month on a network that is already overloaded (with iphones) I say NO Deal. There are alot more better deals out there that you can even get financing on. As for the date - no one can sell any PC or laptop with win7 prior to Oct 22. The stores I'm sure are storing them till the release Smile
