With the Holidays around the corner I wanted to make sure I posted this in hopes that parents don't run into the mess that I ran into last year. If you buy a game that is a "Steam" or Value Game" then you need to FIRST be aware of what will interfere with the game what programs will.
So first how can you tell you if the game you have is a "steam" or "Value Game"? Well read the game. I ran into the issue when I got my son "Left4Dead" (the PC version) - here is how you can tell its a game that is going to give you a issue:

Troubleshooting Network Connectivity
So after your finished freaking out that they want you to turn off your anti-virus program and your firewall you then find them asking you to change the ports in your router and re-configure it. Wait there is more, here is the list of programs that have been known to give the game issues. Take special note to the one with the " * " because that means you can't just disable the program but you need to remove it from the pc.
The following applications have been known to cause issues with Steam and playing games:
Anti-Virus Applications - Any incorrectly configured Anti-Virus program could potentially block Steam and Steam game access. Please make sure that Steam and all Steam games are listed as exceptions in these programs. If the issue persists, please try disabling or uninstalling the program to test the issue.
Anti-Spyware Applications
Firewall/Security Applications
Other Applications

So basically I'm saying buyer be-ware! Since my kids use 10 of the programs listed up there all I can tell you is that Steam and Value games are not in my house!
i don't understand why would you have to disable or un-install those programs? are these online playing games where you play other gamers? i would be made if i purchased one of those games. i mean once you open it then its yours for good and there is no way i would change my computer around for a game. i'll have to show this to the bf since he plays computer games.
