I was watching HLN this morning, and of course this was almost all they were talking about. It was over an hour about all his accomplishments and hits, but eventually they got to talking about how the guy was a bit of a wacko. I mean, seriously, he was a great performer, maybe the best of his time. And that's coming from me, a person who hasn't liked a MJ song since elementary school. But holy crap, he was a wacko! He made billions, and when he died owed more than he had. I'm not going to get into the question if he was a child molestor or not. I don't know enough of the facts. I would almost be willing to subscribe to the theroy that he was non-sexual at all. I dunno.

But here is my question: Was Michael Jackson a great, giving, generous guy? Was he known for giving to charities and helping people? I don't know, I'm asking. I haven't heard much about that aspect on the news. I was just wondering if he was the great guy half the world thinks he was, or was he really a crazy man-child that spent billions of dollars on his own private fantasy land and lifestyle? It was his money, so he had the right to do what he wanted with it. Tho maybe it would have been better for him if he put a little away and bought a couple less amusement park rides. I'm just trying to figure out if he was really a humanitarian worthy of all this worship, or was he just another spoiled pop star...

Well here's a list of a few charaties that he supported and donated to throughout his career:

  • AIDS Project L.A.
  • American Cancer Society
  • Angel Food
  • Big Brothers of Greater Los Angeles
  • BMI Foundation, Inc.
  • Brotherhood Crusade
  • Brothman Burn Center
  • Camp Ronald McDonald
  • Childhelp U.S.A.
  • Children's Institute International
  • Cities and Schools Scholarship Fund
  • Community Youth Sports & Arts Foundation
  • Congressional Black Caucus (CBC)
  • Dakar Foundation
  • Dreamstreet Kids
  • Dreams Come True Charity
  • Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation
  • Juvenile Diabetes Foundation
  • Love Match
  • Make-A-Wish Foundation
  • Minority Aids Project
  • Motown Museum
  • NAACP
  • National Rainbow Coalition
  • Rotary Club of Australia
  • Society of Singers
  • Starlight Foundation
  • The Carter Center's Atlanta Project
  • The Sickle Cell Research Foundation
  • Transafrica
  • United Negro College Fund (UNCF)
  • United Negro College Fund Ladder's of Hope
  • Volunteers of America
  • Watts Summer Festival
  • Wish Granting
  • YMCA - 28th Street/Crenshaw

He also traveled throughout the world and visited children in need. He may have been mentally unhealthy, but I don't think he was a pedophile. There's just not that much convincing evidence to stake those claims.

A Soldiers View on Michael Jackson's Death
I was just watching the news, and I caught part of a report on Michael
Jackson. As we all know, Jackson died the other day. He was an
Entertainer who performed for decades. He made millions, he spent
Millions, and he did a lot of things that make him a villian to many
People. I understand that his death would affect a lot of people, and
I respect those people who mourn his death, but that isn't the point
Of my rant.

Why is it that when ONE man dies, the whole of America loses their
Minds with grief. When a man dies whose only contribution to the
Country was to ENTERTAIN people, the Amercian people find the need to
Flock to a memorial in Hollywood, and even Congress sees the need to
Hold a "moment of silence" for his passing?

Am I missing something here? ONE man dies, and all of a sudden he's a
Freaking martyr because he entertained us for a few decades? What
About all those SOLDIERS who have died to give us freedom? All those
Soldiers who, knowing that they would be asked to fight in a war,
Still raised their hands and swore to defend the Constitution and the
United States of America. Where is their moment of silence? Where
Are the people flocking to their graves or memorials and mourning over
Them because they made the ultimate sacrifice? Why is it when a
Soldier dies, there are more people saying "good riddence," and "thank
God for IEDs?" When did this country become so calloused to the
Sacrifice of GOOD MEN and WOMEN, that they can arbitrarily blow off
Their deaths, and instead, throw themselves into mourning for a "Pop
Icon?"

I think that if they are going to hold a moment of silence IN CONGRESS
For Michael Jackson, they need to hold a moment of silence for every
Service member killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. They need to PUBLICLY
Recognize every life that has been lost so that the American people
Can live their callous little lives in the luxury and freedom that WE,
Those that are living and those that have gone on, have provided for
Them. But, wait, that would take too much time, because there have
Been so many willing to make that sacrifice. After all, we will never
Make millions of dollars. We will never star in movies, or write hit
Songs that the world will listen too. We only shed our blood, sweat
And tears so that people can enjoy what they have.

Sorry if I have offended, but I needed to say it.
Remember these five words the next time you think of someone
Who is serving in the military;

"So that others may live..."

This is so true, they never get the recognition they so deserve. The sacrifice they make everyday is outstanding.

Re: A Soldiers View on Michael Jackson's Death

I can answer your question with truth ! The main reason more people mourn a pop legend is because the music touched them, People is US don't want to thin about war ! People also have a hard time grieving over what they cn't imagine ! Same theory is for people earning alot of money can't image being broke and broke people are broke because the can't imagine having a lot of Money ! People over time seem to hang their heads down and not look at what other people do to keep us free and alive ! A lot of troops have died saving our lives and i respect that for what it is, but when you have never heard that one troop speak a word, when you never heard that one troop tell his story, you have never seen his picture on the news, you have no realationship with them, hearing a voice for over 20 years makes you feel you had a realashipship with them ! look at Billy Mays I was in tear when he died, he wasn't a music legend he died right afte Michael Jackson did ! Some of you may not even know him but I paid $45 for my first thing of Oxyclean back when he first started out some knew him as the oxyclean guy !

He did have a heart for people and so did Michael Jackson ! People understand when someone cares for people when they are on TV and in the media it shows !

here is a tribute page to Billy mays there are actually more if you look :

Re: A Soldiers View on Michael Jackson's Death

I think if you crawled out of bed this morning, if you got to breath the fresh air, you got to walk down the street freely....I could go on and on then you should be grateful and you should mourn the soldiers who died, yes many died to give you that freedom. You may not know them by name you may not have a "face" to mourn but they died for you and they died for me.

I think most know atleast one person who was touched by the war, they either served and if they were lucky came home in one piece or they were injured or sadly to say they gave their lives. I fully support our troups and I mourn for those who gave their lives so that I can enjoy my freedom.

Re: A Soldiers View on Michael Jackson's Death
Absolutely, these men and women are heroes and don't make a penny off it, without them I'd hate to think where we'd be. They should be the ones making a ton of money. Their sacrifice and dedication is priceless and far exceeds anything any entertainer can do for us.
