For those who don't know (Just in case) P2P means Person 2 Person ! Referring that a file goes from one person to the next ! Now that I got the DUH moment out for the people thinking that. Heres the good stuff !

mIRC - I think is the best way to download any file ! Note : Downloading from mIRC can be a pain if you have no clue what you are doing and don't know anyone in the chat room ! I have a group of people in a great mIRC program that can help just about anyone get started. - My mIRC username is: Jayson have any questions ask me or Jason151 <--- is the moderator
You can join my group by downloading mIRC and going Here ! You can also download it from Here too!
Torrent - Is a good way to download files but is confusing to some users !( I use torrent for few files)
I learned a lot about P2P from UniteTheCows.com if you want to know about laws or how tos they have a lot of info there ! I trust the site for the most part but its still has humans so its your disgression to be used in a safe manner ! They also have programs on there !
{mod edit- please be advised that GeekDrop does not endorse this site. please download at your own risk. we ask that you use caution when downloading ANY programs.}
Nice write up Jayson,
P2P is also known as Peer to Peer. And is a basic networking typoligy. Other typoligies are "server/client, Star, Ring, and Hybrid". But for a basic home network Peer to Peer or Person to Person is best and easier to implement and support.
Basic hardware for a peer to peer network consists of 2 or more computers with network cards. A router (with built in switch), Cable modem or dsl modem and catagory 5 cableing.
Cable from cable/dsl modem plugs into wan port of the router.
Cables from router to each pc to be no network.
Each PC needs to be a member of the same workgroup (see settnig workgroup below)
Setting workgroup windows pc.
Right click on My Computer icon and select "Properties".
Select the "Network Identification" tab along the top of window.
Click the "properties" button.
Make sure the workgroup radio button is selected and type in the name of the workgroup you would like to use. This can be whatever you want to call your workgroup. Just make sure it's the same on each pc that you would like to be a member of the workgroup.
Reboot computer and now your in that workgroup. Do the same for each pc you want to be able to communicate with.
Sharing drives or directories
In order for other pc's in your network to be able to see files or folders you must "share" them on your network.
in order to share the resource, right click on the drive or folder and select "sharing". then click on "Share this folder".
Sharing a printer on your network.
If you want to share a printer you can do so in a similar manner. If the printer is setup on one of your comptuers you can print to it from any other computer on your network. First you must share the printer. Then on the pc you wish to use it on go to control panel/printers and faxes. Click add printer. Select network printer and it should pull up the shared printer. You can then add it to that computer. The only catch to this method is the computer that the printer is attached to must be turned on for you to be able to print to that printer. You can purchase a stand alone Printer Server witch would allow the printer to be on the network and not attached to a computer. This will get get you around the need to leave the pc running all the time.
If i can scrounge up some diagrams to help I will post them up.
Thanks.
