We have all heard of teens commiting suicide because of bullying/cyber bullying and what not, but this particular incident in particular stands out more for me maybe because she was an Irish girl, and a recent immigrant to MA to start a new life with her family. Phoebe Prince was 15 years old when she took her own life due to constant bullying via Facebook, text messages and in person.
Apparently she had caught the eye of a high school senior football player who had asked her to a dance and the "mean girls" "You know them from your own high school: They were the pretty girls who played sports, were in cheerleading, and used their good looks to date all the name-brand jocks" didn't like that, so she became the target of their wrath. She became constantly harassed and I guess it became too much for her.
What is most sickening about this particular case is that after she committed suicide, a Facebook page was set up to pay tribute to her but it quickly turned evil "Even after her death, the ty little girls left disparaging messages on a Facebook page created in her memory". The Facebook page has since been cancelled.
Seriously? What kind of monsters are these girls? You actually do something like this to someone after death, when you are pretty much responsible for their death and all over a boy ? I find it despicable that kids of that age can actually be so cruel and mean, if any of these girls were my daughter, they would get a severe beating from me and I don't believe in beating kids but this was over the top.
I really hope that these monsters will be brought to justice because it seems that not a lot is being done about it and the perpetrators are getting away with "murder". When is this cyberbullying going to stop? How can you actually raise a monster that could treat someone else in this manner? Girls can be SO mean, and yes they are worse than boys when it comes to this kind of stuff, all I can say is thank god I have a boy!
My heart goes out to this girls family. RIP Phoebe.

I hadn't heard about this. What a sad story. I would have imagined that those girls would have been overwhelmed with guilt, but instead it seems that they are proud of what they had done.

I don't think it matters if your white, black, Irish, Italian, ugly or beautiful once you are a target of some bullies for some it can be too much. The laws need to catch up with the times. Regardless some kids see that if they are not doing it in person and only over the net then no harm is done. Parents and schools need to educate kids more these days and the laws need to catch up with the digital age.
Well thank the Lord they're doing something about it, 6 (I had heard 9 earlier) are being indicted. I hope they throw the book at them.
I think everybody gets their share of being bullied at one point or another, including me when I was in school. I had a ton of guys always trying ot mess with me. For me, for some reason it was never anyone my own size or smaller, always someone bigger and older. It turned me into a scrappy-doo, .
It's pretty hard for any teacher/parent/authority to completely stop it, unless it's happening right in front of them, and alot of the time, kids are too scared or embarrassed to bring it up to anyone who can help.
I didn't luckily enough. I realize that its hard for the authorities to completely stop it, however, I just don't think there is enough being done to stop it, I think a lot of teachers turn a blind eye unfortunately. This girl must have been put through hell and back in order to have killed herself. In this case, I feel something should have been done, especially that her mother had contacted the school about it and they did nothing .. They should be held responsible in some way too.
Cyberbullying is a crime and many tots have to pay for their life if they become a victim of it.Its important to councel such victims and make them understand life is god gifted and we dont have the right to end it.Every problem has a solution.

What a beautiful girl and what a sad story. She had her whole life in front of her and now its gone. Cyber crime is scary and for a number of reasons. First the law enforcement cant keep up with the technology, not only in hardware, software but the man power to understand the internet and the dark side it can have. Kids now days I think look at it as I'm not physically hurting them so what harm is done? It just goes to show the power of mental abuse. What type of ppl do this heartless ones and yes they need to be punished and harshly.
