Apparently AT&T slipped on some details for the MMS feature that comes out on September 25th (Friday). Here is what you need to be prepared for:

Alrighty.... Apparently the servers died. My understanding is that there is a serious nation wide problem with the MMS service... Meh. I haven't downloaded OS 3.1 yet, and won't for a while... Especially while MMS is useless.

Sounds like AT&T were singing the praises that everything went smooth yet the customers were having issues - gotta love that. Really iPhone is doing a disservice to their customers with only allowing AT&T to be the provider. I think its apparent that they just cant handle the load alone.

James,
If you ended up jailbreaking don't update to 3.2 yet. It's only been jailbroken with the pawnage tool for Mac. (Unless you use a Mac then go ahead.) Redsnow should be released in the near future. If you have a 3G[S] be extra careful about reading the new rules for jailbreaking to help future proof your device.
So far I don't know anyone that has updated their carrier settings to allow MMS. I think it's a mix of people who are unaware it's available and people (like me) who don't care about it.
This was very easy for me to do. I just hooked my iPhone up to my computer, opened iTunes, updated, and restarted the phone. Took no more than three minutes.

The good news is that for users who purchase bundled sms plans there is no extra charge. That is what is being reported. I logged into AT&T's website earlier tonight and couldn't find confirmation to that. All other carriers that I know of are not achrging extra for MMS though. Too bad Google VOice doesn't handle MMS (yet). Really though I have no true use for MMS. I'll just email the photo to you and AT&T can suck it and use my unlimited data plan to cover it.
