So the son's 1 year warranty is expiring this week on his laptop. They have offered me another 2 (maybe 3 can't remember) year warranty for $300. Is this worth it or not? What do you think?

What kind of laptop is it? And what would the warranty cover?

Re: Extend warranty or not?
if the cost of a new one is much more than that i'd say go for it. my dell laptop lasted about 3 years before it completely fizzled, my friends that had dell laptops also had problems. but mine is from 2002. so maybe they make them better now?

i'm sure SM will have a more up-to-date opinion than mine Wink

its probably better to be safe than sorry. a new laptop will cost more than $300, i would say go for it.

Re: Extend warranty or not?

I have 3 laptops and 2 of them do. I so wished I had it on the 3rd one because if you remember over the summer I semi toasted it. I just happen to be blessed that I have a beyond uber geeky hardware buddy that brought it back to life. For kids I would say its definitely a no brainer - yes they are worth it. My mom has a extended warranty on hers and its been repaired twice under it (IMB thinkpad).

i would say it would depend on whats on the computer. most stuff you can backup and new laptops start at around 3. in less than 2 more years they might have something more recent that you want to upgrade to anyway.

i would also factor in how dangerous the kid is,
does he leave it lay around on?
does he usually use it while walking or in transport?
have you needed 2 repair it under warranty b4 ?
stuff like that, factor it in like auto insurance, and make an informed decision and also compare it to the price of getting another one of the same computer new and used,
