That is right, Disney is putting out a netbook for kids. It should hit the stores (Toys-R-Us) sometime in July for around $350.00. The kiddie netbook will have a 8.9" display (LCD), the OS will be windows XP Home and it will come with roughly 40 parental controls to keep the kiddies safe. It will also be wi-fi ready.
So with times tight will parents buy these for the kids? I think this might be a hit. I dunno as a mom I get tired of buying crappy gifts that will only last my kids a month or two before they get tired of them. Now granted I have teen boys and I think they would die if I purchased them disney brand netbooks. Hey if could be worse it could have been wrapped in Hannah Montana right.
The only real downfall I see is that netbooks don't have DVD/CD drives. Ok how many of us have at some point gotten some stupid kid CD either in a happy meal, cerial box, matchbox toy...... Now mom and dad are left with the kiddos complaining "but mommmmmmmm I want to play this". That might be a problem. As for the price I don't see it as that bad. After all if were willing to cough up some serious bucks for gaming systems I just lump this up there as a simualar purchase.

yeah I agree I think I would rather spend a little more for a dvd/cd player. I'm with you I would rather buy a cheapie laptop too but I also see this as taking off.
Ah! i got so excited when i saw this!..............until i saw the price
guess that's your answer about will people buy it when time's are tight...
~karma: i'm countin on it~

Hmmm... I dunno. I hope they are more durable than a regular laptop if geared for kids. Otherwise, I'd rather pay $50 more and get a cheap lappy. In fact, on Black Friday, I was able to get one for the cheerleader for $300.00. She's responsible enough to take care of it, and can play her games/dvd's on it.
But I do see it taking off, regardless of whether it's rational or not.
Dancin' with myself...
