Ok so I have to book a hotel overseas (England) and I'm doing my standard search for cheap rates (its not for me but for mom and dad). Needless to say mom checked prices last night but didn't book and today they are about $75.00 more. Now I was amazed on the price differences between the sites I knew to check (Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity, Priceline).

So does anyone have any great sites they get good deals on for Hotels? I figured it cant hurt to ask in case I am missing the next latest travel site.

I will add that although I'm not looking to get a car I have one awesome find of a car rental site if you should ever need one. I have saved TONS using this one and they work with all the rental sites (They have great discount codes): rentalcarmomma.com <-- I know laugh at the name but hey I save a ton with them. Big Grin

Try this one here. Just be careful that you do your research and maybe look for reviews, because you usually always get what you pay for.

Awww thank you missb. I knew the hotel I was looking for and I found it there: HERE. They were a little higher (30.00 a night after I did the conversion) then travelocity. But its nice to have another site to check on so I will bookmark that one for sure. So again thank you Big Grin

I've always had luck with hotels.com, but really have no clue if they do overseas. Funny.... I was just considering starting a thread asking for cheap flight sites. Kinda lookin to take a flight (a cheap one) in the near future.

As a frequent traveller myself, I always keep the following few tips in mind.

  1. Try to find cheap flights 21 - 45 days in advance. Other than last minute deals, you will pay more as your date to leave approaches. Sometimes buying too soon in advance also makes for higher prices.
  2. Sometimes unsold seats are greatly discounted 2 days before departure.
  3. Never, ever fly on weekends where possible! Try to fly on a Monday morning, Tuesday, or Wednesday.
  4. Try not to fly within 7 days before or after a holiday.
  5. Be flexible with which airport you fly into, if your destination has more than one airport.
  6. Check on buying two 1-way tickets instead of a round trip. I have done this numerous times travelling to Europe and was very surprised by the difference in fare.
  7. You may find cheap flights after midnight EST in the middle of the week. This is when airline databases are updated and sometimes you can grab a cheap ticket that has been returned back to the system. This also works great, I do this for my boss all the time.
  8. Search for flights at all times throughout the day, you never know when a cheap ticket has been released to the system.

Good luck and happy travels Big Grin

Just be prepared in this post 9/11 era that this will undoubtedly cause you to be scrutinized a bit more. My dad recently had a HECK of a time coming back in from Mexico doing this. Granted it was worth it... but just give yourself a bit more time to go through security.

I can understand that some destinations may have this problem. I have never encountered this though while travelling to Europe, and I have been doing this with Continental for the past 3 yrs now. But like you say if you're saving a bunch of money then it's worth it. Also, all international travel requires you to be there 3 hours before departure time, if you stick to that, you'll have plenty of time for them to scrutinize you.

Re: Cheap Sites to book hotels

Oh I know about Mexico travel. In fact one week from today my butt is on a plane to Mexico for 4 days (business conference). Its a pain to travel there by air with all of the checks since 911 but I so can't wait to go there (mind you kid free trip).

A few other tips I would add:
make extra copies of your passport. Keep one back home and one extra copy in your luggage. Don't keep all your cash and credit cards in one place. Last year mom got robbed on day one of her trip to Italy. What a mess I had to go though to get money and credit cards to her. She was robbed 2 days prior to hopping on a cruise).

Re: Cheap Sites to book hotels

Ding Ding Ding we have a winner - yes they do overseas hotels and they came in a little cheaper PLUS they have a price guarantee which the others would not do for this hotel/location. So I booked it and mom and dad are happy and so are there friends since I made everyone's reservations. There doing a 2 week cruse and that is there starting point so they are going to be staying there for a few nights.
