This morning while driving to work, I was about 5 mins away, the radio went off, I tried to turn it back on and the message "low battery" came up across the radio. I then noticed that all the controls were dead, speedometer didn't work, gas showed as being empty etc. The car was still running though.
I got to work, parked, turned off the engine, tried to turn it back on but it wouldn't go on. I asked one of the guys here to take a look, we go back downstairs (this was about an hour later) car turns on fine, everything was working again. He drove it around the parking lot a couple of times, still working fine, the battery light went on though at this point. We parked, turned off the engine, turned it back on, everything still fine.
Anyone have any idea what that could be? The battery, the alternator? HELP, I hate car trouble
Sometimes they have a sticker on them with the date it was bought or installed on it. The sticker usually has little circles for the month and year that they pop out to mark it.
Does the car sit unused alot? Sometimes when it sits unused for too long the battery will go bad early. Either way, if you haven't replaced it since 06, or maybe once since 06 I wouldn't be surprised at all if it's due for a new one.
Hmmm, probably the alternator then, undercharging the battery. A couple easy things to check yourself first though is make sure the battery connections are tight, but if you just had a new one installed they probably are, can't hurt to check anyway, and also see if your alternator belt is loose. Sounds like the fresh battery helped because it was fully charged and your old one wasn't due to the undercharging alternator.

Yep, it's either the Battery or the Alternator, but I'd bet dollars to donuts it's the battery.
