Yesterday I think a good portion of us stopped in our busy day to watch this balloon travel for a few hours with the horror that a little 6 yr old boy name Falcon was in. In the end it turned out that he was NOT in the balloon but hiding in a box in his attic. Mean while airports were shut down, the military was alerted, plans were being made to get him down and tons and tons of people sat in horror praying.

Fast forward it till after he was found ok. Now we are learing that this is a family that looks like they love publicity. They have been on wife swap (more then once) and its making folks wonder. What I found strange was the dad when the balloon was rescued said he was in his home office and watched it on TV - ummm excuse me - you were home???? As a parent I would be frantically chasing a balloon with my car or doing something but not sitting in my house that is for sure.

Last night they were on Larry King live being interviewed when the little boy said he did it for the "TV show". Ahhhhh really now so are we doing this as a publicity stunt again I must ask? If you missed it here is the interview on Larry King Live

Then on the Today Show they once again interviewed them. I felt bad for the kid he threw up on live TV - yeah I was watching that one. What was also strange was the parents continued to talk as poor Falcon was puking. The Today show did stop the interview so they could clean him up then continued it. The dad in the second part did cry but in my opinion it was a fake cry and a bad fake at that. Here is the clip from the Today Show

So what are your thoughts? I guess there will be a investigation to look into it, in my opinion they should. Who should pay for this rescue?

The family should pay. If this was a stunt then that's ridiculous. Either way, i think that family should've had that thing locked up and put away and/or should have been supervising the kids. That alone makes it their fault. I don't put any of the blame on the kid though. I don't know what's going on, but he's only six either way.

I think it could very well be a publicity stunt after learning about the type of people they are. If it's proved that it is in fact that, they should have to pay, and even have charges brought against them. To have the airports shut down and have the military alerted is no laughing matter.

My gut tells me this was a hoax and if that is the case then Yes the family should pay. However if this is not a hoax and a stupid accident then no they shouldn't have to pay.

I have a funny story about causing a search and rescue but I'm running out to a meeting so I'll type it in later Smile

OK back now. Well I can only image what this cost him as far as the search and shutting down certain things (airport). If it was a hoax yeah then make them pay but good luck collecting it. They will only file bankrupt and get out of it because I can tell you it was probably wayyyyyyyyyyyyy over 100k

ok now my story.....

My dad - God love him - is a avid fisherman. Every chance he gets he is on the ocean going for big game. From time to time we make runs to the islands to fish. Well he has the best of electronics on the boat including a EPIRB which is a emergency radio beacon that if you have a emergency you hit the button and it notifies the Coast Guard via satalite distress calls. Now because of Pirate issues in the ocean (yes they have lots of issues and running to the islands you see it) the alarm on the EPIRB is silent. So dad comes back from a long day of fishing and as always he removes alot of his electronics and brings them into the house - including the EPIRB. Oh I forgot to add this is the day before thanksgiving 2004. Well in the transfer of the equipment he hits the alarm which is silent. For 2 days my mom is telling me about the helicopters flying around their area and buzzing the houses and about the coast guard and marine patrol boats by their house in the water. She is a avid walker but was afraid thinking some bad guy was on the loose. Well it took 2 days to figure it was coming from inside my parents house and not from a boat (yeah good think it wasn't a real emergency). My parents were at church when they said the police and coast guard came flying down their street and hoped out of their cars at my parents house. They were getting ready to break the doors down which are 10' custom etched glass doors (expensive). The neighbor let them in and shut off the house alarm. They had to inspect to make sure no one was injured. My dad got a nasty call from the coast guard. They spent so many man hours looking and I guess it even interrupted planes coming in because of the distress calls Laughing. Dad was lucky they didn't charge him. Accidents happen Worried

Re: Balloon Boy - Sheriff to press charges

Ohhhh I would not want to be this family right now. I guess we will see what happens Surprise

Sheriff to file criminal charges in balloon boy case

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — A sheriff said Saturday that his office will file criminal charges in the case of a 6-year-old boy who vanished into the rafters of his garage while the world thought he was zooming through the sky in a flying saucer-like helium balloon.

After the boy's parents, Richard and Mayumi Heene, met with sheriff's officials for much of the afternoon, Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden didn't say who would be charged or what the charges would be, but he did say the parents spoke to investigators voluntarily and weren't under arrest.

Re: Balloon Boy - Sheriff to press charges
Looks like they've got them figured out! Once again it's very sad because there are children involved Sad and most likely child protective services will become involved with the parents being charged (potentially with felonies!) and dragging their kids into this mess. Apparently they found evidence in their house that this has been planned for some time now.
How can someone get that far off the edge of reality (pun, their reality tv history and desire for new show that apparently spurred this) that they're willing to do something like this, meanwhile dragging their children into the mess, just to get fame and fortune.
How about working like the rest of us??? Don't talk to me about how hard it is to make ends meet, i'm There. You are having a hard time, you figure out how you're going to make it--whether it be an extra job, an extra degree, etc. Pulling a stunt like this is NOT a solution. And thinking of reality tv as if it is like a jackpot lottery isn't either. Perhaps we need to phase out reality tv and the obsession right along with it. (Yeah right would that happen though--they're not going to kill what makes ratings soar and $)

I hope they take those parents down big time, they deserve it, both of them are pathetic....

OH NOOOOOOOOOO you can't take away my junk TV. I fully admit I'm a reality tv junkie - that and news junkie. However I have no intention of watching them. Your right though reality TV is really like watching train wrecks - they all crash at some point. Worried
