So apparently iPod's are now going to make us use certain headphones. They will be required to have a chip in them to allow them to work with the newest iPod Shuffle. Of course we all know these won't be any $5.00 ear buds. I personally think this is ridiculous. I mean, does Apple not make enough on iPods as it is? Here's an article about it.
What do you think?
I think this is incredibly dumb. I'm glad I wasn't going to buy the new shuffle anyway. Some of us find their brand ear-buds very uncomfortable.
Hey I admit when they first came out I jumped in and got a ipod. Heck I have owned 5 ipods but my last purchase was a zune 120. Yeah Steve Jobs (or whoever is running apple) wont be seeing any more of my money.
The headphone thing above - yeah how very apple like of them.
ick i hate Apple's headphones. they hurt my ears. i do
most things Apple however. not macs...haven't quite drank that full glass of Kool-Aid. and won't. (i love Windows) but i totally disagree with their decision on this. greedy...
"Most everyone's mad here.

"You may have noticed that I'm not all there myself."
i dont think the new shuffle is that appealling for consumers to be "stuck" with whatever earphones. even if hey are semi-comfy. i have a few pairs for different activities. for example...if im runnning i dont use the buds. i have to have something around my ear or they fall off.

Maybe this is the reason why
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh so wired just did a story on this and I guess its already here:
Over the weekend, some bloggers who discovered a chip inside the iPod Shuffle's earbuds speculated that Apple was crippling its latest media player to work only with certain headphones. While to an extent it's true — that the Shuffle only fully works with particular headphones — you actually can use any headphones in a pinch.
That's it. There's no digital rights-management or copy protection involved.

My bet is someone would figure out a way "around" it, unless they're really good headphones anyway. Either way, if sales plummet due to it, they'll just remove it.
