Last weekend Yahoo in Taiwan hosted what they call "Hack Day" this is where they bring in third party developers to create apps and widgets for Yahoo. So when in Taiwan what does Yahoo do but hire a bunch of Go Go girls to give the geeks and nerds lap dances. They even hired a few male dances (although I didn't see pictures of that) for the female developers.
OK I know some are going dang why didn't I get invited to that. Well not everyone enjoyed it. Here are some postings of not so happy developers who were there, this one is by Sherri
Thanks Yahoo Taiwan for taking down the tech community several more notches. 2009 has been a banner year for sexist behavior in the tech community and this event is a prime example.
Interesting to note that this sunny, upbeat recap does't bother to mention the strippers and lap dances. Is it somehow supposed to make it "ok" because this Hack Day was in Taiwan and they just have "cultural differences" to the rest of us? Were there some "Hack Boys" to entertain the handful of female programmers who showed up?
Thanks for sending the signal that women are just fine at tech events so long as they are scantily clad and know how to dance... on a man's lap.
Well I guess that got Yahoo thinking and now back peddling with a appology:
All,
I wanted to acknowledge the public reaction generated by the images of female dancers at our Taiwan Open Hack Day this past weekend. Our hack events are designed to give developers an opportunity to learn about our APIs and technologies. As many folks have rightly pointed out, the “Hack Girls” aspect of our Taiwan Hack Day is not reflective of that spirit or purpose. And it’s certainly not the message we want to send about our values here at Yahoo!. Hack Days are about making everyone feel welcome, including women coders and technologists.
This incident is regrettable and we apologize to anyone that we have offended. Rest assured, it won’t happen again.
Best,
Chris Yeh

So what are your thoughts? Was Yahoo in the wrong or maybe that lady "Sherri" in just need of maybe getting laid?
I mean I have been at quite a few conventions where the entertainment left me wondering but come on its all in fun. Besides some of the pics of the nerds well I'm guessing they dont get lap dances unless they pay for them
OK what is a story with out pictures?
You can see more pictures HERE and read more the story HERE
So what are your thoughts or do you even care? Should Yahoo have to appologize?
