Pogoplug device review....

So for a while now I have been using a little device at home called a PogoPlug. Basically it allows me to access my external hard drive(s) anywhere at any time. It also allows me to share anything or everything on my externals with friends and family. It really go so far beyond that so let me kinda give you a look and review into my PogoPlug.

First what does a PogoPlug look like? Here is what the device looks like and my personal PogoPlug (its hooked up to my modem/router):

Now its not directly hooked up to my computer but my computer sees it as a device that is. It looks and acts just like its one of my hard drives.

Now on the PogoPlug itself it has 4 USB ports so I can connect up to 4 external hard drives to it at once.

So what really is a PogoPlug and what does it do? Well it does a lot. It allows me to access my external(s) from anywhere. Say I'm at work and I need a file or photo from home but I forgot to bring it with me. Easy all I have to do is access my PogoPlug and download it and I have it. Say I want to share a file with a friend, well I can do that too. See my PogoPlug will let me share. I can choose to share everything or only one item. I can choose between if I want that person to only download or if I will allow them to upload a file to share with me.

Here is what my PogoPlug looks like when I access it away from home:

Now the little green guy next to some of the files means that I have shared that file with some. Like I said you can share the whole file or just part of it. Take example of my music file

I could share ALL of my music or I could just share some of it. I can choose the whole music file to share or just one file inside the music folder

OK so that is cool but what else can it do? Well you don't just have to be on a computer to access it. Yep they have apps for it that allow you to access and stream your files. I have an android phone and from my PogoPlug app I can stream my music or videos right on my phone. You can stream from a iphone, ipod touch, smart phone (android or blackberry), playstation 3 or your X-box 360. You have to admit that is kinda impressive.

Another great thing is that PogoPlug is not just a device that you buy and you get a set of instructions and your stuck alone trying to figure out but they have a whole online community. They are always listening to the consumers to see what they want and they are always making improvements to the device. For example they asked the views what they wanted and one thing was remote printing so they listened made it happen. Now you can remote print so it I wanted to print something from my android phone I can via my PogoPlug. These little upgrades don't cost us anything, it comes free with the PogoPlug! There are no anual fees.

So how much are they? Well you can get them from a number of places but basically they are around $100. - $110. for them. So there ya have it. I personally love my little PogoPlug and it has saved my butt a few times with needing files on the run.
