9 years after you first posted, this thread still helping us figure things out.
Had been working around F2 until I got stupid enough to, let's see, ask "now why would something I use every day just stop working?"

Same think happened to me.
Thank you for the tip.
I have a Logitech wireless and simply hit the F mode key and it fixed the problem so F2 works for edits again.
