Choosing Food for Health and Longevity

People around the world choose different types of food according to their geography and culture. Food items contain nutrients that keep cells in the body energetic, fresh and alive. Dead cells leave the body and new cells take their place. In this way, the body remains healthy and fresh. Longevity of a man depends upon this wellness and freshness of the body. If the body succumbs to disease, wellness disappears and a person grows old and ultimately heads toward death. So it is very important to choose food and to decide what to eat, when to eat and how much to eat. To choose food for health and longevity, follow these tips:

  • Eat food when hungry. You should eat food when you feel hunger. Only your mind (nobody else) can tell when you are hungry. Your mind controls and knows all the functions in the body. So you should rely on your mind only. If you do not eat food even if you are hungry, it is very bad. Similarly to take food even if you are not hungry is also very bad. Both affect health and wellness negatively. You should observe temporary fasting only when your body is facing some digestive problem.
  • Taste lies in hunger. If a person is hungry, then any type of food (whether simple or fancy) shall taste delicious. Those who do some physical labor shall feel hunger and find the taste of food fulfilling. Those who sit idly and take food while watching a clock shall never fully appreciate the taste of food. So instead of choosing delicious food items for taste, you should do some physical labor either by working or by doing exercise.
  • Only your mind can choose food. Nowadays people are very much conscious about choosing food. They follow the advice of doctors or what is told in magazines or on TV programs. In reality, people should listen to their own internal guidance. When you are craving a particular food, it may well be because that food item contains those nutrients that the body is deficient in. Such nutrients may have some healing property or some other characteristic necessary for the body to maintain good health.

  • Eat less and simple food. Food supplies nutrients to cells in the body. These nutrients start metabolism in the cells, which keeps cells energetic, fresh and alive. However the energy by which all organs (like the heart, lungs, stomach, etc.) function nonstop from birth until death is supplied by the life force of a being. This life force is associated with the mind. Both mind and life force keep the body fresh, well and free of disease. So food is of less importance; one should eat less and eat a simple diet which can be easily digested.
  • Come to self through meditation. In order to understand mind and to know what the mind needs, one should come close to the mind and self through meditation. All happiness, wellness and longevity lie within the self.

So without fearing for anything, we should eat food when we feel hunger. Food that the mind wants and the body needs is generally simple and less costly. Such food only can maintain health and prolong longevity.
