I had vista installed when I first got this laptop, but I installed ubuntu! (long time ago)
Ok so heres the thing I got a trojan in windows and now i can't get windows to boot up at all ! But I can boot up in Ubuntu. So is there a way to fix windows from Ubuntu ?
like it says in title duel boot maybe i should have mentioned that in post and title?
I can get it to load the windows start screen up and then it goes to blue screen with Text !
I try to load in safe mode and it goes right back to boot up screen ! I dont have a vista disk
If you have an XP Disk, you should be able to still try a fixboot and fixmbr with it by booting into it, and into the recovery console. You can also give EasyBCD a try during your repair efforts.
It sounds like your mbr (master boot record) and possibly your partition tables got screwed up. You should also try using a bootable cd to check your partitions. Make sure the windows one is set as Active and Primary. Also make sure it's not set as invisible, sometimes when dual booting the boot manager will set the other OS's partition as invisible / hidden.
Here's a nice set of tools to use too. If a simple fixboot/fixmbr doesn't fix it, this is the type of thing that can usually take a while to sort out the exact problem, with a LOT of rebooting.
I'm still having major problems and can't Vista to boot up ! I tried booting off XP Cd with no luck
I'm gonna try a few more things any suggustions?
What exactly happens when you try to boot up from an XP cd?
Basically all you need to do is try to get that MBR fixed, and make sure your Vista partition is marked as unhidden and active.
If you're still trying to mount the Vista partition via Ubuntu, here's a detailed guide: Clicky
OK When I start it up Normally this is what happens
It goes to bootup screen gives me an option to boot in Vista or Ubuntu if I choose Vista it goes to a screen like this

I can't read much more in the pic I tried to take of it
I used the UBCD to boot up and it boot off disc in windows XP environment but Once I take disc out and reboot it still gives me the blue screen
I also can boot into Ubuntu with no problems
Ok that blue screen looks very familiar. You said you purchased the computer with vista on it and now your trying to put XP on it (in a dual boot). Here is my question did you check with the manufacture to see if your motherboard is backwards compatible? I purchases a pc for my office that was vista and tried to downgrade to XP only to find that it was next to being a nightmare because the MB was a vista board and not backwards compatible. Unfortunately because of programs I'm stuck at work in the land of XP
Why are you going from Vista back to XP? If it is a Vista board you can get it to work in XP but it becomes a nightmare with drivers. I also had to use a low level DOS bootdisk to wipe the drive and start over. You can see my rant about that here: clicky. Good Luck.
Anyways check with the manufacture to see if you are backwards compatable. I'm betting your not. You don't have raid set up do you by any chance? Make sure your bios doesn't have you marked as raid.
No not trying to get XP on my comp but I only have windows xp & Windows 98SE install discs ! I'm going to put win7 on here once I get it booted back up, but first I need to get my comp loaded up so I can save all my files before they go BYE BYE !

Have you tried putting the HD in another PC and use a recovery tool on it? Get one that can recover files
by doing a low level scan.try and get GetDataBack for NTFS 4.0. I know it is on the Hiren's boot CD
It have seen it in action and it worked very well it even bypassed the windows security protection.
The Drop!

I'm confused, did you install Ubuntu over the top of your previous Vista install? Or is it a dual boot with Vista and Ubuntu?
Can you still boot off the Vista cd, and get to the recovery console? If you can, you should be able to do a "fixboot" and "fixmbr" (no quotes) to at least be able to boot up again.
