I have an 85 nissan, (model 720, pickup truck, carborator engine, 2.4L, 4 Cylinder) that has had some problems latley, first off, it started making a popping noise every time i pushed on the gas pedal, this only happened when the truck was in drive, 2nd, or 1st gear, soon after this noise started, the truck started to want to stall, through out the day, the stalling got worse and worse, but the popping noise didnt change much, it would do it less at times,l but it wouldnt do it anymore, the popping got faster as the RPMs went higher, the stalling got to the point where the truck will not start anymore, when coasting, the truck did not make the popping noise, nor did it want to stall, the popping noise only happened when accelerating, and the truck only wanted to stall when stopped, such as a stop sign or red light, the truck also wanted to stall more, when pulling out of a stop, sorry this is so long, im just trying to cover everything that happened,
if anyone has any idea on this one please help,
is there anything you dont know dogg? ima try seeing if thats it, then ill letcha know, thanks!
I've worked on cars since I was about 16, and used to hang around with a bunch of motorheads, . I also used to work in a transmission shop when I was 19. I usually try to fix anything on my car myself before resorting to taking it to a mechanic if at all possible, even hard stuff, to save the crazy labor fees.
btw, while you're doing all of that it'd also be a good idea to check your air filter to see how dirty it is. If it's not too bad you can bang some of the muck out against a wall or the ground a bit, or if you have access to an air compressor, even better, blow it out. If it's really bad it'd just be better to get a new one, they're cheap and easy to replace.
would a blown head gasket cause these problems ?
would a blown head gasket cause these problems ?
Going by the symptoms you've described, and lack of others, I'd say probably not, but you can take a look through this and see if it describes your symptoms a bit better.
I ran across this and wondering if you have it fixed? Also did you check the vacuum lines ? A leaky vacuum line may also cause issues like this ! You normally would here the vacuum leak !

I'm thinking it's one or both of 2 things:
Clogged fuel filter. If it's not getting an adequate supply of fuel, it can cause misfiring (the popping sound) and stalling.
Old spark plugs/old distributor cap. On a 25 year old vehicle it's probably time to replace the plugs and dist. cap, and most people just replace the spark plug wires while they're at it. Plugs, a cap and wires really don't cost too much, and are pretty easy to replace at home, just be sure to look up a diagram on the net for your vehicle to make sure you put the wires back on the cap and plugs in the right order. If the mixture in the piston chambers isn't igniting right it'll cause misfiring and stalling. It's most likely this.
A fuel filter usually isn't too hard to do at home either, but can get a little messy if not done right, and of course, a fire hazard. No smoking.
