Tonight is the State of the Union or as so many of us think the UNstate of the union. I figured we should have a thread to chat about it.
Who plans to watch it? I plan to watch it, how ever I need to get ready first by strapping down the TV just in case I get the urge to toss it against my french doors.
So feel free to post before, during and after on your thoughts about the state of our union or unstate of it. How would you grade Obama (A - F)?
9pm EST so in less then 10 minutes.
All I know is no matter who the president has been, I've never liked the State of the Union Address ... it's nothing but a cheer fest. People start clapping before he even gets done with a sentence, no matter what he says. It's like there's a flashing applause sign going off every 4 seconds.
Then a week later everyone goes back to bashing whichever the current president is.
SO true, did you notice right before he started, the announcer said that it would last about an hour and a half "allowing time for applause" wth is that all about??? load of BS!
I think it's just a day of exercise for all the old folk who go to it. All the up and down of standing ovations after every single sentence. Gotta be great for the thigh muscles.
I wonder will all our troops REALLY be out of Iraq by the end of August,
I'm not sure what channel you had on but I had on NBC and when he talked about the troups coming home and the dates they showed all of those generals sitting there stone cold faces. The Dec. around then standing and cheering but they sat there silent. That also goes for when he talked about the gays in the military. The only time I saw the generals get excited, stand up and clap was when he talked about how we need to support our troups when they come home.
I feel bad for the banks - they are really going to be poor and you know how that is - poop runs down hill so less for the people at the banks (loans and stuff).
He talked a good talk (yes dogg it was a pep rally) but who is going to pay for all of the things he promised? SO for the 2 perks I may get I'll be paying for the 15 others get?
To me it felt like his speeches prior to the election - full of BS - a dog and pony show. I'm not impressed. They said on the news (NBC) that they were shocked on the amount of sarcastic heckles - I didn't hear any and I wish I would have.
Alright, I didn't watch the hour and a half waste of time. I read the transcript in about 5 min, and no one stopped me to clap.
I think it was pretty stragith forward. He had his tail between his legs when it came to health care. He only had two paragraphs on it. I think he see's it's failing fast.
He talked a lot about money coming to the middle class.... Like $10,000 tax credit for 4 years of college. And a million people that will have to pay very little. Let me tell you: I'm sinking in student loan dept. Just like now, the only people that will ever get help with college is the dirt poor. You can't get sh!t if you're not totally poor. My parents both worked for a college, and made enough money for us to get by.... No cuts for us.
He ended on a sap story, like he always does.
Compared to what I thought, I thought the speech was okay. I would have killed myself if I had to see the whole thing on tv. I don't know what this government freeze will do, but I guess we'll find out.
I didn't vote for a president last year. I didn't think either person was good. But if he can start improving the economy, I'll be all for him. I don't think we're out of it... Nor do I think we'll bring the troops home as soon as he hopes... All I know to say is wait and see what happens in the next year.
Snooze fest there. For once I wasn't to upset to be stuck at work, its not like I missed anythng.
